For today’s β€˜Throwback Thursday’ we look back to this day, back in 1971.

Our fine picture is something different from the $2,500 Mobile β€˜All Star’ Free-For-All run at Harold Park on 15 October 1971.

The fine shot is coming around the home turn and about to straighten up for the finish of the race.

Riverina star Welcome Advice (No4 – Allan Harpley) is about to take the lead and went on to win the race. He rated 2:04.8 for the 11.5 Furlongs.

Bay Foyle (No7 – Charlie Parsons) is making his sweeping run and eventually finishes second in the race.

Brand New (No3 - Lester Adams) led the race and battled away to eventually finish in third place.

Others in the race were Knighthood, Earl Lucre, Polo Breeze, Ima Pride, Atomic Smoke and Viva Amigo, all household names back then.

It is a great shot that shows the home turn under lights. In the background on the hill, all the old terraces still stand proudly today and check out the old cars too.

Of course, the following year, 1972, Welcome Advice went to win the Inter Dominion Grand Final at Albion Park, while Bay Foyle won the 6th Craven Filter Miracle Mile at Harold Park.

A proud moment in our rich harness racing’s history
