🚗 AutoPlus Explains: What’s The Air Filter For?

💨 Your engine needs air to run — but it needs clean air.

Your car’s air filters helps prevent dirt, dust and other contaminants from entering the engine’s air intake.

Over time, the filter can become dirty or restricted, making it harder for the engine to get the air it needs.

A dirty or restricted air filter can sometimes contribute to:

✅ Reduced engine performance
✅ Increased fuel consumption
✅ Poor acceleration
✅ Engine running less efficiently

That’s why your air filter is checked as part of regular vehicle maintenance.

If you can't remember the last time your air filter was checked, it might be worth having it checked. There is also a cabin air filter, which also needs to be checked to ensure that you breathe clean air inside the car.

🚗 A little reminder about something that’s easy to forget…

Take a look at this cabin filter we pulled out of a vehicle. 😳

Packed with dust, dirt, leaves, debris and who knows what else — and this is the filter that’s meant to help clean the air coming into your cabin.

Your cabin filter can often get overlooked, but it plays an important role in keeping the air inside your vehicle cleaner and helping maintain good airflow.

⛽ Using More Fuel Than Usual? Your Car Could Be Telling You Something.

If your fuel consumption suddenly changes, don't automatically blame petrol prices.

A change in fuel economy can sometimes be associated with things such as:

• Incorrect tyre pressure
• Uneven tyre tread
• Engine issues
• Dirty or low engine oil
• Worn spark plugs
• Dragging brakes
• Clogged air filters
• Fuel system problems
• Sensors
• Driving habits or conditions

If your car is using noticeably more fuel than it normally does, it's worth finding out why. Talk to the team at autoplus.com.au/mechanic/cheltenham-car-service

It’s so important to get coolant leaks checked early! 🚗💦

This VW Golf came in with a coolant leak and once we got into it, we found this water pump had definitely seen better days 😅

A small coolant leak might not seem like a big deal, but leave it too long and it can turn into overheating, engine damage and a much bigger repair bill 💸

If you’re topping up your coolant more often than you should, or you’ve noticed a puddle under the car, come and see us before it gets worse! 🔧😊

Your battery does more than start your car.

It provides the electrical power needed to start the engine and supports your vehicle's electrical systems.

And when a battery starts to weaken, you may notice:

🔋 Slower starting
💡 Dimming lights
⚡ Electrical issues

A battery can give warning signs before it finally lets you down. If you need a new battery or have questions about your vehicle's battery health talk to us today at autoplus.com.au/mechanic/cheltenham-car-service
