Thoroughbred Park, home of the John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes, Canberra's first million dollar race day Home of the Canberra Racing Club.

The action takes place both on and off the track with racing 25 times per year. The two-day Canberra Carnival encapsulates the John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes and TAB Canberra Cup in March. Thoroughbred Park Function & Convention Centre is quickly developing an enviable reputation for function and conference facilities. At Thoroughbred Park we know how to make you feel welcome. Our catering and event team are readily available to assist with all your enquiries and understand the needs of your ever-changing requirements. You can be confident that our staff will ensure your event is a great success. Thoroughbred Park offers an extensive variety of menus; however our chefs are flexible and happy to tailor a menu within your budget suited to your needs. We have conference and function facilities for everyone, from a small conference of 12 to large events of up to 2000. With a variety of large outdoor areas, you can get married under the beautiful flowering plum trees or start your event with drinks and canapés in the mounting yard. The outdoor options are endless!

We won! The Seabiscuit has taken out the 2026 Clubs ACT Cook for a Cause competition.

The Seabiscuit was our head chef’s idea: calamari and prawns, lettuce, pickled green tomatoes and a homemade hot sauce, a sandwich unique to anything else on our menu and a great way to put our fresh produce to work. Every one sold has seen $2 donated to the Canberra Hospitals Foundation.

Our head chef said: “It was great to win. It was a real team effort, and everyone here contributed and got behind it.”

He also said: “Our punters were so supportive of the amazing Canberra Hospitals Foundation cause.”

Thank you to everyone who ordered one, and to the judges and Clubs ACT. Come and try it yourself at the next Race Day if you haven’t already.

Fashions on the Field returns at TAB Melbourne Cup & Big Dance Race Day on Tuesday 3 November 2026. Think fresh florals, bold prints, soft pastels and vivid spring colour, styled your way from headwear to shoes.

Your MC is Kristen Davidson, and your judges are Haylee Potts, Jason Roses and Kody Leigh McGlone. Swipe through for the full judging criteria for Best Dressed, Millinery and Best Suited.

Prizes will be announced soon. Enter on the day in the betting ring. Entrants must be 18 years or older, and your outfit needs to be polished and suited to a day at the races.
