AUDI R8 V10 TYPE 4S | CAR FACT

The second-generation Audi R8, known internally as the Type 4S, continued Audi’s naturally aspirated V10 formula when it launched in 2015.

The 5.2L FSI V10 was available in different states of tune, with the higher-performance versions producing up to 449 kW and 560 Nm.

Unlike many modern performance cars, the R8 V10 remained naturally aspirated. No turbochargers or superchargers were used.

Power is delivered through a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, with Audi quattro all-wheel drive used on quattro variants.

The engine also uses a dry-sump lubrication system, allowing consistent oil supply under high lateral and longitudinal loads while permitting a lower engine installation.

A 5.2L naturally aspirated V10 capable of revving beyond 8,000 rpm is what makes the R8 V10 mechanically distinctive.

TECHNICAL WEDNESDAY | WHAT IS A MAF SENSOR?

The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine.

The ECU uses this information to determine how much fuel is required to maintain the correct air-fuel mixture.

A MAF sensor can become contaminated by dust, oil vapour or other deposits, affecting the accuracy of its readings.

Incorrect airflow information can result in poor fuel economy, hesitation, rough running, reduced power or an illuminated engine warning light.

A MAF problem does not always mean the sensor itself has failed. Intake leaks, wiring problems and other air-management faults can produce similar symptoms.

Correct diagnosis matters before replacing expensive components.

TIP TUESDAY | LOSING TYRE PRESSURE?

A tyre that repeatedly loses pressure does not necessarily have a visible puncture.

Slow pressure loss can be caused by a damaged valve, leaking valve core, corrosion around the rim, bead-sealing problems or a small puncture.

Temperature changes can also affect tyre pressure, but significant or repeated pressure loss should not simply be ignored.

If one tyre consistently requires more air than the others, have it inspected.

A few minutes checking a tyre can prevent excessive wear, poor handling and potentially dangerous tyre failure.
