Well folks, here’s a reality. Diesel, is now over $6/gallon everywhere. Theres just no way around that anymore it appears. The reasons why it’s this price are outside of everyone’s control and we don’t want that to be the focus of this post.
Another reality, our delivery pricing was built around an average diesel price of $4.50/gallon. Until now, we’ve just been eating the extra cost hoping fuel prices would come back down.
Unfortunately, it seems there’s no end in sight for the rising cost of fuel. With that, we’re now forced to face it. We’ve been losing money on deliveries for the last few months and now that loss it too large to continue.
We will be raising our delivery cost. We’re sorry, but we have to do it. We’re a small, family business. Every penny we lose comes directly out of our families mouth. It affects our ability not only to operate as a company, but to operate as humans. To pay for our food, homes, children; and everything else. We’re not a large corporation who can just write stuff off. That’s why you love us. You have our cell phone numbers. You don’t call a hotline, you call US.
Another reality: Our owner has been putting money into the business to try and avoid a price raise. Let me put that into perspective. Not only has he not taken a paycheck from the business in over 2 years, he’s been putting his money into the fuel account. He has quite literally; been paying to come to work and provide the services and equipment he knows you depend on.
So, all that said. Let’s get down to what matters.. What’s the price increase? $0.55 per mile. That’s it. If we remove our people from the truck, that puts us BREAKING EVEN on deliveries. That means we are still losing money on deliveries (cause our guys don’t drive for free) but the delivery price we bill will at least now cover the cost of the truck, tires, fuel, and insurance. Before, we were paying most of the fuel bill out of our pockets and just can’t do that anymore. I’m sorry, and I know the ownership here is sorry, but it’s simple math. If there’s no more numbers in the account, we can’t operate.
We hope for everyone’s sake the fuel prices come back down and we can lower our delivery cost accordingly, but until then, it is what it is. We truly, deeply appreciate you and your loyalty. We will do everything we can do continue to provide the level of service and quality of equipment you deserve and expect; at the best possible pricing we can. We know this sucks, we’re right there with you. In the meantime, let’s enjoy the suck together and keep our heads high looking toward the future. Keep on, keeping on. Trust Hard Work. And as always.. Whatever you need, we’ll be here if you need us.
