What's the worst undercoating? That depends on a lot. Franchises are pretty bad. They use what coatings they want and hope you stick with a name you used to trust.
It's tough to get the right information from them as well. For me the worst is asphalt. Bituminous coatings are cheap. You can buy the pails and drums at pretty much the lowest prices. No chain or large business is going to grind that rust down for a reasonable price so they just cover it.
Asphalt builds up a thick coating that does a good job hiding rust. Looks great at first but traps everything in. It's worse than rubber.
Be informed. Watch out for fees and addons. What starts at $499 turns to $799 real quick. And warranty - watch tommy boy agaim. That warranty isnt worth a cow's rear end visit.
Have them show you a grown man grinding that rust for hours. Sweat and dirt. No way.
Covering over bad preparation with more goo. Stick to hard working people that want what's best for your truck. We find hybdrid wax is the best overall. It's firm and easy to work on without mess. It's not a solid. Solvent based, so it cleans well. Basically, I'm dipping a truck in parrafin wax. It's a great sealer. If rust finds a way to start up again then just spray it with a quick wax spray can. Why pay for that?
Shops hate me. Easy touch ups and no yearly full coatings. Won't wash off like wax. I don't make money on return yearly visits. I'm my own worst enemy lol. The only problem? I can only do a few at a wack. If you don't use me then at least do the research and make sure they sweat. Lol.
