Walnuts are now for your car? 🤔
If your vehicle doesn't feel as responsive as it once did, has developed a rough idle, hesitates during acceleration, or simply isn't performing like it should, carbon buildup on the intake valves may be the culprit.
Many modern Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines are especially prone to this issue. Unlike traditional fuel injection systems, GDI engines spray fuel directly into the combustion chamber instead of over the intake valves. Because of this, gasoline no longer cleans the backs of the intake valves as you drive, allowing carbon deposits to gradually build up over time.
As those deposits accumulate, they can restrict airflow into the engine, leading to a variety of drivability concerns.
🔧 That's where walnut blasting comes in.
Despite the name, there's no woodworking involved! Walnut blasting is a professional cleaning process that uses finely crushed walnut shell media and specialized equipment to safely remove stubborn carbon deposits from the intake valves without damaging engine components.
When carbon buildup is the source of the problem, walnut blasting may help restore:
✅ Smooth idle
✅ Engine performance and power
✅ Throttle response and acceleration
✅ Reduced hesitation and misfires
✅ Fuel economy that may have been affected by restricted airflow
Carbon buildup is common on many direct-injection engines, including certain Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Ford EcoBoost, Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, MINI, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda SkyActiv, and many other GDI-equipped vehicles. While every vehicle is different, many begin experiencing noticeable carbon accumulation somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000 miles, depending on driving habits and engine design.
If you're experiencing rough idling, hesitation, reduced power, poor fuel economy, or a check engine light related to misfires or airflow concerns, carbon buildup may be contributing to the problem.
The good news? Not every vehicle requires walnut blasting, and it's not a service we recommend without reason. Our technicians can inspect your vehicle, identify whether carbon buildup is affecting engine performance, and recommend the right repair based on what your vehicle actually needs.
📞 Have questions or think your vehicle may benefit from a walnut blast? Give us a call or stop by. We're here to help keep your engine breathing freely, running efficiently, and performing the way it was engineered to.
