Keeping our Mid-Prairie students safe—one step at a time!

Have you noticed the yellow crossing arm that extends from the front bumper of our school buses? It serves an important purpose: helping students stay far enough in front of the bus so their driver can see them. Walking too close to the bumper puts children in a blind spot.

Remind your student to:
✅ Walk in front of the crossing arm and stay at least 10 feet in front of the bus.
✅ Make eye contact with the driver and wait for their signal.
✅ Look left, right, and left again before crossing.
✅ Walk—never run—and never cross behind the bus.

The crossing arm is a helpful guide, but the driver’s signal and checking traffic are essential! Thank you for helping our Mid-Prairie students build safe habits every day. 💛🖤

That stop arm protects someone’s child.

When a school bus displays flashing red lights and extends its stop arm, children are getting on or off the bus.

Please slow down, pay attention, and stop when required. Stay alert for children near the bus and never rush past a stop arm.

A few moments of patience can help a child get home safely. Thank you for helping protect our Mid-Prairie students! 💛🖤

Parents, please understand this: when a bus driver keeps correcting your child about how they’re sitting, it’s not always because we’re “singling them out.”

There’s a reason we tell students over and over:

Sit ALL the way down.
Face forward.
Stay in your seat.

Not sideways.
Not backwards.
Not on your knees.
Not hanging into the aisle.
Not half-standing talking to the seat behind you.

We aren’t saying it because we enjoy repeating ourselves 47 times before 8 a.m. 😅 We say it because we are responsible for getting your child to and from school safely.

A school bus can stop suddenly. Another driver can pull out in front of us. Something unexpected can happen in seconds. How your child is sitting matters.

So when your child comes home and says, “My bus driver is always getting onto ME,” please remember—you may only be hearing one side of the story.

Sometimes that bus driver has already said “Sit down and face forward” ten times.

We’re not picking on your child.

We’re trying to protect them.

Please help us by reminding your kids that bus safety rules aren’t suggestions—and correcting unsafe behavior isn’t “singling someone out.” It’s part of our job.

Feeling Grateful!

A HUGE thank you to The Rolling Pin, Allen Mitchell CPA, and Poured Soy Candle Co. for providing such a wonderful breakfast for our Mid-Prairie bus drivers!

Our drivers work hard every single day to safely transport our students, and having people in our community take the time to recognize and appreciate them means so much.

Having this kind of support from our community is truly a blessing. It’s the little things like this that remind us just how special the Mid-Prairie community is. 💛🖤

Thank you for thinking of our drivers, supporting our schools, and helping us start the day with full stomachs and grateful hearts!

🚌 MID-PRAIRIE NEEDS YOUR HELP! 🚌

Our students are involved in athletics, activities, competitions, field trips, and events throughout the year—but we need drivers to get them there.

Right now, our need for activity/trip bus drivers is serious. We have events that need transportation, and we simply need more people willing to step up and help.

We are asking our Mid-Prairie community for help. Maybe driving a regular bus route isn’t for you—and that’s okay! Trip driving may be a great fit. You can help with activity trips as your schedule allows. Even if you can only take an occasional trip, every driver makes a difference.

Our kids work hard for the opportunity to participate in these activities. Transportation should not be the reason they can’t get there.

If you’ve ever thought about getting your CDL, now is the time. Mid-Prairie will help you through the process and provide the training and support needed to get you behind the wheel.
