What's the difference between the top and bottom picture here? If you said the angle of the driver's arms, you'd be correct. One of our students today was setting themselves up and preparing for their lesson today when it was noticed by the instructor that the student's arms were bent almost 90° to the steering wheel. After looking over where the driver had positioned themselves to drive, the instructor realized the steering wheel was too close to the student and that too needed to be adjusted. So before leaving, the instructor had the student adjust the steering column to better suit the driver by pushing the steering wheel away from them. Thereby giving the student a safe distance between them and the steering wheel. When setting up a car to drive, you want to make sure you have plenty of space between you and the steering wheel to ensure that there is ample room for the airbag to deploy if such a need arises. If you're too close to bag and it goes off, it may not fully inflate enough to do it's job if your in a wreck. So give the wheel some space and keep your hands apart so they don't block the bag either. Remember, "10&2"

Last time we discussed parking against a curb, facing downhill. But what about uphill? When parking uphill, against a curb, there are a few things you have to do differently when parking. As you approach the curb, turn your signal on. That will never change. Always use your turn signal. But when you stop, instead of turning your wheels to the right, you will turn your wheels to the left, then back up against the curb. You can do this by either putting the car in reverse, and backing up slowly; or you can put your car in neutral and let it roll up against the curb. Either way, once you've anchored the car against the curb. The rest goes the same, put the transmission in park and apply the parking brake.
Now, the important thing to remember in this scenario is the term: "With a curb". When parking your car, the ONLY time you use this method is when parking "Uphill, with a curb". All other situations, you will park as if it was downhill. That INCLUDES uphill WITHOUT a curb!

Parking against a curb, seems pretty simple, right? Pull up to the curb, put the car in park, call it a day...that's what 99% of drivers do, it's easy, it works, and according to the Oklahoma driving test...it's also wrong. There are a few steps to properly parking up against a curb. In this brief picture, we will show you:"Parking Downhill, With A Curb."
To properly park downhill against a curb, you first turn on your turn signal then approach the curb slowly at about 5 MPH. Position your car about a foot away from the curb, parallel from it. Then, turn your steering wheel all the way to the right and creep forward until your right front tire anchors against the curb., Then, place your car in park and engage your parking brake.

Let's give each other some space. Over the past few days, it's been a little wet out there wouldn't you say? With much of the area recording over 5 inches of rain this week with more expected this weekend, maybe it's been more than a little. That's why it's important to make sure you're doing you're best out there not to follow too closely when out on the streets. When the weather is nice and dry, the average driver needs atleast 2-3 seconds to come to a complete stop, and that's just the act of reacting to needing to stop and the vehicle actually doing it. When you add in bad weather or other conditions, those times needed become greater. So make sure you're giving each other the space you need on the roads.
Parents, make sure you're letting you're young drivers know the dangers of following too closely as well. They may have the reaction time, but they lack the experience to use it properly when they're behind the wheel.

Situation: You're in the blue car, getting on the highway. How fast should you be traveling when merge onto the highway with the rest of traffic?
A: 45 MPH
B: No more than 65 MPH
C: Whatever speed you feel comfortable with

Answer: B The posted speed limit is 65 MPH, therefore you should be traveling no faster than 65 when trying to merge. The trick is though, when trying to merge onto the highway, that you want to match the speed of the others on the highway so you can safely merge without impeding traffic.

It's too dangerous! The safe way is to keep going and take the next road or exit and work your way back. Never back up on a highway, or on a street. The consequences could be worse than losing a couple of droids in the sands of Tatooine!

Even in a galaxy far away, there are young people learning to operate a vehicle for the first time. Now we don't have YT-1300 light freighters here on Earth, nor are there any Wookies here to explain the nuanced skills it takes to operate one. But here in the Milky Way, more precisely, Earth, we do have cars and trucks that require a certain amount of training to be able operate safely. A good part of safe operation is knowing where everything is on your vehicle and how it works. If you don't know how it works, you can't use it properly! Parents, the next time you're riding with your young student driver, have them show you that they know where everything is and how to operate it. You and your young driver will feel better knowing that they can operate the car safely!

The school year is rapidly coming to an end. Now is the time to get your young student driver enrolled in one of our Driver Education classes before the summer schedule fills up! We offer multiple packages to fit most budgets and busy schedules.
Our budget friendly Compact Package gives you all you need to safely get your young driver ready for the road, including 10 hours of in class instruction with a lunch day 1 & breakfast day 2 PLUS 6, 2 hour lessons of behind the wheel instruction that also includes a certificate of completion that can be used for an insurance discount.
Our Sedan Package includes all of the above plus any prep for the actual road test! This greatly improves the student's chances of passing!
Our Luxury Package includes everything above PLUS an actual drive test once the student has completed the course.
Then there is our ultimate experience, our Chauffeur Package; where you can literally ! With our Chauffeur Package our staff will pick your student up for class and take them home afterwards. Upon passing their driver's test, we will take them to get their license and then home as well. Our Chauffeur students also have priority scheduling in our system as an added perk.
