This Day in Automotive History. On June 18th 1923, the first Checker taxi rolled off the assembly line in Kalamazoo Michigan. Kalamazoo remained the home of Checker until the last one rolled off the line in 1982. In 2009 Checker filed for bankruptcy, and a year later ceased to exist.

Just found out my service truck has a name! Apparently, every 99-06 and 07 classic chevy and gmc trucks have this little Easter egg on the back side of the gauge bezel. The name is actually the inspector that approved that specific part, but still a cool find!
