๐โ๏ธ Monsoon season can change road conditions in a matter of minutes. A clear Tucson afternoon can quickly become heavy rain, strong wind, blowing dust and dangerously limited visibility.
At National Auto Collision Centers, we want everyone to arrive safely, so weโre sharing a few important reminders for driving during Arizonaโs summer storms:
Slow down and leave extra distance between your vehicle and the one ahead. Wet roads increase stopping distance, while standing water can cause hydroplaning. Turn on your headlights, avoid sudden braking or sharp turns and never use cruise control during heavy rain.
Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway or wash. Water depth can be difficult to judge, and the pavement beneath it may be damaged or completely washed away. Turn around and choose another route.
When a dust storm approaches, do not drive into it. Safely pull completely off the roadway, stop, turn off your lights, set the parking brake and keep your foot off the brake pedal so other drivers do not mistakenly follow your taillights.
Before heading out, check your tires, windshield wipers, headlights and brakes. After a storm-related impact with a pothole, curb or debris, pay attention to pulling, vibration, unusual noises or uneven steeringโdamage to the alignment, suspension or frame may not always be immediately visible.
