Trailer hitch locks are important. Whether you use a top dollar brand or a cheaper alternative, get a style that offers protection. Below I included a few pictures. The first style is small, light weight & in my opinion offers good protection that requires a lot of noise to remove. The 2nd picture is usually more expensive & heavier but is another very good choice. The 3rd & 4th pictures are two styles I don't recommend. They can be broken or cut off very easily. The type of locks that go through the handle are ok for traveling down the road but don't do much when the trailer is being stored.
There is a new style lock that goes behind the leaf spring & sticks out through the tire. This will lock the tire up & prevent the trailer from being towed easily.
For locking doors & other items look up what a "puck lock" is. I put up a picture of a red one. They hide the entire shackle which makes it much more secure than a normal padlock.
I hope this helps. I personally just bought a cheap version of the 1st picture & am happy with it. A good lock can range from $30 - $300 dollars & is extremely important.
