Is your motorcycle’s front brake pulsing or do you feel a noticeable up-and-down movement through the front wheel when you apply the brakes? A warped or bent brake rotor could be the culprit. In this Dennis Kirk Tech Tip, WeRideTwo shows you how to use a dial indicator to check a brake rotor for runout and determine if it’s actually bent.

Once he identifies the problem, Alex walks through replacing the front rotors with Galfer Wave rotors and installing new brake pads. You’ll see helpful tips along the way, including using the correct front axle tool, thoroughly cleaning the wheel’s rotor mounting surface, applying thread locker, tightening rotor bolts in a star pattern, and following your motorcycle’s specific torque specifications.

He’ll also cover a few easy-to-miss details during reassembly, like greasing the axle, checking the tire and wheel rotation direction, protecting the new rotors from damage, and replacing brake pads that have worn into the old rotor. If you’re working on the brakes of a Japanese sport bike, these tips can help you get the job done correctly and safely.
