When one of our favorite project Porsches returned for increased stopping power to match his 700hp Carrera T build, we turned to AP Racing and Ferodo . This mega brake kit should substantially improve the braking force and feel on this regularly tracked Carrera T without rendering unusable for the street. After completing a complete transmission rebuild on this Porsche 911 Turbo and performing some engine out service and repair, it was time to take this classic air cooled 911 for a test drive to see if everything was working properly. Even though the 930 Porsche 911 Turbo isn’t that powerful by today’s standards, it is incredibly light when measured against a modern car, even a sports car as light as a Porsche 911. It still feels fast on the street, and the power delivery is Porsche Turbo perfect, which means the boost comes on and you get a big dollop of power all at once. It’s a fantastic car, and it makes us incredibly grateful to have been a part of its journey back to glory.

What comes out must go back in. After removing the engine and transmission from this 930 Porsche 911 Turbo, Chance, our Porsche Gold Master technician had to put the newly refreshed engine and transmission combo back into the car. While it’s impressive that a Porsche 911 powertrain can be removed in essentially one piece, putting it back into the car is no easy task.

The Corvette Z06 has always portrayed itself as the track ready Corvette, which is true in many ways, but it has been missing one key track ready feature since Chevy brought the Z06 back in the C5 Corvette, a feature that Porsche has been offering in its sports since the 90s. We remedied that for this customer, who owns numerous Porsches as well, by installing a set of Sparco buckets in the C8 Z06. But the C8 Corvette doesn't make it easy. Repairing the transmission on a 930 Porsche 911 Turbo isn’t easy, and once we got the newly restored unit back from Howard Wright’s shop just south of Atlanta, Chance, our Porsche Gold Master technician, was ready to put it back into the 911 Turbo. However, there was one small catch: Chance had recently had surgery and couldn’t lift more than a few pounds, so Gabe, one of our other factory trained Porsche technicians, had to lend a hand.

When a customer’s beautiful 930 Porsche 911 Turbo had a transmission problem, we had to find someone who could expertly repair the transmission on an old air cooled Porsche Turbo. Fortunately, we learned about Howard Wright who works just south of Atlanta, which isn’t too far from Wolfpen’s location in the north Atlanta suburbs of Roswell and Alpharetta. Howard took the 930 Turbo transmission apart down to the bolts, and meticulously repaired and restored the various components before reassembling the entire thing. It was a pleasure to watch him work, and we’re thankful for his expertise.

A transmission problem in a 930 Porsche 911 Turbo means the engine has to come out. To be fair, this is true of pretty much any Porsche 911. After it was determined that this customer’s beautiful 930 Turbo needed a transmission rebuild, our Porsche Gold Master technician Chance dropped the engine and transmission, separated them, and prepped them for restoration by Howard Wright, a local Porsche transmission expert located just south of Atlanta, Georgia. We were thrilled to find out that Howard was so close to our shop north of Atlanta between Roswell and Alpharetta.

When one of our customers came in with a beautiful 930 Porsche 911 Turbo that had serious transmission problems, we weren’t sure what we were in for. He had a hard time just getting it to Wolfpen, which is located near Alpharetta, Georgia north of Atlanta. When it arrived, we marveled at the condition it was in, which made the transmission concerns an even bigger bummer. Fortunately, we have Chance, a Porsche Gold Master certified technician with two decades of Porsche experience and air-cooled knowledge.
