Think twice about using liquid gasket sealer. I used to be a fan of “do what’s right for your situation” … until we are getting a run of these.

You’re looking at a crystallized liquid sealant that formed to the radiator hose. Once we removed the hose the crystallized structure stayed in place.. This particular client used the Blue Devil product which markets that their product doesn’t do this. We can’t flush the heater core on this one. Multiple attempts both directions using multiple methods. Guess who isn’t going to have heat in the cabin this winter? The radiator goes to the scrap pile and the H2O pump is finished too. The client pays more than $1000 for using the product which lasted less than 100 miles. They have a bent rod too.

These vehicles belong to you and you are free to do what you would like. We know that there are good reports on this and similar products. Know that everyone markets the good stories. No one markets and talks about bad events. Kinda like Facebook. How many friends post that they were just served divorce papers or their kiddo brought home all failing grades?

Looking at financial reality. Our advice is don’t gamble with the unknown. Fix what is broke properly and don’t fix what isn’t. We have the option to buy imports with supposed low miles for $300 each and we don’t for a good reason. There is no odometer validation. Get a minimum of a 12 month unlimited mileage warranty. Protect your cash and your vehicle.

A seller used head gasket liquid sealant to mask the symptoms of the blown head gasket.

If radiator coolant isn’t bright pink, buyer beware. The alkaline additive causes the fluid to look darker. Compare the two reservoir fluid colors (one for the hybrid system in front of driver side, and the engine reservoir on the passenger side. They use the same coolant and should be the same color. If the engine reservoir is darker, cloudy, or has metallic gelatin like goop … these are strong red flags that the seller is hiding a blown head gasket.

In addition, we discovered a bent piston rod. If left unnoticed and we moved forward with the head gasket repair, this rod more likely than not would have failed and poked holes in the sides of the engine block.
