Gierisch Brothers Motor Company, Ltd. traces its roots to January 3, 1966, and marks its 60th anniversary on January 3, 2026, as one of Roanoke’s longest-standing family businesses.
Founding in 1966
On January 3, 1966, brothers Carl and Dorman Gierisch established Gierisch Brothers Motor Company, Ltd. in Roanoke, Texas.
With help from their older brother Edmund, they built a 30-by-50-foot, three-bay metal shop that served as the original home of the business for many years.
Early Growth and Auto Supply
In 1973, the Gierisch family expanded by opening Roanoke Auto Supply, bringing an auto parts operation alongside the repair business.
This combination of full-service repair and parts supply helped establish the shop as a reliable, locally owned cornerstone for Roanoke motorists.
Transition to Sole Ownership
In 1975, Carl purchased Dorman’s interest in the company, becoming the sole owner of Gierisch Brothers Motor Company.
Under Carl’s leadership, the business continued to grow while maintaining its identity as a family run operation serving the community.
In 2000, Carl formed a partnership with his three sons so the legacy can continue on.
New Facilities and Modernization
To keep up with demand, Carl built a new 60-by-80-foot, four-bay shop in 1986, which housed both Gierisch Brothers Motor Co., Ltd. and Roanoke Auto Supply, Ltd. in one expanded facility.
In 2009, he replaced that shop with a modern 80-by-120-foot, ten-bay auto repair facility on the same block, creating the state-of-the-art building that continues to serve customers today.
Service to Roanoke and surrounding communities and 60-Year Legacy
Over the decades, Gierisch Brothers Motor Company has become one of the oldest continuously operating businesses in Roanoke, serving generations of families from the city and surrounding communities.
Carl Gierisch, Sr. is now 90 years old, retired and continues to enjoy seeing the legacy of the family business that he built.
The company celebrated its 50th anniversary in January 2016 and now reaches its 60th anniversary on January 3, 2026, still family connected, locally owned, and recognized for honest, long-term service to Roanoke.
