🧭 Steve and Julie’s Northwoods Airstream Journey (slightly delayed...August & September were busy)

From Marquette, we headed east to the Straits and set up at Mackinaw Camp Inn. Days were spent exploring Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City before turning south along Lake Michigan to Timberline RV Campground and Sleeping Bear Dunes.

On the way to our last stop at Poncho’s Pond RV Park, we took a quick detour to see a giant sequoia — yes, in Michigan. It’s the largest one east of the Rockies.

Then it was time to head home. Instead of fighting Chicago traffic, we loaded the Airstream onto the SS Badger and cut straight across Lake Michigan. Best way to end a trip. 🌲

Remember when we asked what was going on here? Here’s the answer.

The rear dinette in Walter’s 2022 Flying Cloud is gone. In its place: two club chairs and a custom white oak table.
The table’s wings flip up for dinner or fold down to make it an end table. The base raises, lowers, or lifts out completely. And because the chairs are free-floating, they spin around to face out the open rear hatch.

Do you haul with water or without?
Every gallon is 8.3 lbs. Most Airstream fresh tanks hold 30-40 gallons. That's up to 330 lbs of extra tow weight affecting your fuel economy, brakes, and bearings.

There's no wrong answer; it depends on where you're going and how you camp.

We completed the structural work, frame, and subfloor repair to get it ready for conversion.
Clayton delivered it to Milwaukee, where it'll live as an addition to an art gallery and social area.
