Team FTF Cycles returns to Loring’s land speed events to debut their 2026 Buell SuperCruiser, sets dozens of land speed records within 2 events!
After a several year hiatus from racing, FTF Cycles owner, crew chief and land speed racer, Dan Pike obtained 2026 Buell SuperCruiser #12 and made the decision to test the latest model to come from the Buell legacy. A new, highly anticipated model that is nothing remotely similar to the Buells of the past, the Super Cruiser is a blend of traditional American cruiser styling with the heart of a superbike. Pushing 175 HP and weighing in at a lean 485 lbs, the super cruiser is the fastest American cruiser on the market. When FTF Cycles became a displaying dealer and service center for Buell, Dan naturally had to see how it stacked up to the claims.
“After some minor prep such as a kill tether and the appropriate safety wiring, we were ready to return to our favorite proving grounds, Loring AFB to see what this bike can really do in a purely stock form!” Said Pike.
The Loring Timing Association’s event was held from July 15th to the 18th 2026. At 2.7 miles long, the LTA race track is currently the longest asphalt LSR surface available in the world.
With wife, Cheri and son, Christopher as the pit crew, Team FTF Cycles made the nine hour journey to northern Maine. The team had a productive week but there were challenges such as vicious head winds and rain earlier in the week. The decision was made to run up in class to secure some records that were within reach in the current climate while waiting for conditions to improve. After some better conditions on Saturday, they were able to take 3 records in the Modified 1350 class with a top speed of 163. 235 mph! All told, team FTF Cycles headed home with 22 new land speed records across several production and modified classes aboard the Buell SuperCruiser within a single event!
Due to the team’s success in the July event, Team FTF Cycles Racing was asked back to Loring for an exclusive invitational event. They were one of only 12 teams selected to return to Loring for the fall event held from September 2nd to the 5th.
Almost immediately after being selected, the decision was made to accept the invitation and return to Loring. Now it was time to take a hard look at the previous attempts and search for any areas that could be improved upon. The exhaust was removed and sent to Kevin Drum of Drummer Exhaust for some magic internals. The ECM went to IDS for a new map and a higher rev limit. They would now be pushing the bike to 11,200 rpm’s. Upshifting at 155 mph was a bit arduous so the shifter was flipped to GP style and the handlebars were adjusted. There were issues with the race gear as well. Because it was filling with air, the race suit went back to Vanson Leathers for perforation venting and a more appropriate and aerodynamic helmet from Alpine Stars was added to the list.
Upon returning to Loring, the team was faced with the reality that rain and head winds would be an issue for the majority of the week. The best day to run would be Wednesday. The team made an incredible 21 runs in a single day across several classes, beating many of their own records as well as securing new records with an event top speed and new personal best of 168.718 mph. A new record in the MTG-1350/4 class at the 1.5 mile. Records were also set in production classes
P/P-1350/4, P/PT-1350/4 and
PP/PT-1350/4 at the 2K trap at 167.827, 166.406 and 165.821 mph respectively. Again, Team FTF Cycles headed home with another stack of records, securing 14 records across 7 classes!

To be able to return to Loring in such a short amount of time and be able to put down an additional 5.5 mph and get it all done in a single day was amazing! Sharing a monumental moment such as this with my family is truly one the greatest blessings of my life!” stated Dan Pike of FTF Cycles.
Plans are already the works for Team FTF Cycles to return to Loring next summer where they will continue their quest and attempt to reach 175 mph with the Buell.
