Richard “Dick” I. Todd, age 86, of Pontiac, IL, passed away at 5:50 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Accolade Healthcare of Pontiac.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Per his wishes, there will be no services.
Memorials in Dick’s memory may be made to Livingston County Humane Society.
Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is entrusted with the arrangements.
Richard was born on April 14, 1940, in Warrensburg, IL, to Elbert M Todd and Lillie M. (Steenbergen) Todd. He married Marilyn (Schmidt) Todd on February 24, 1963, in her parents’ home.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Marilyn Todd, of Pontiac; two children: Wendy (Steve) Garrels of Pontiac, IL, and Brian (Amber) Todd of Superior, WI; grandchildren: Zach (Hannah) Garrels, Jake Garrels, Luke Garrels, and Mackenzie Todd; great-grandchildren: Ella, Brooks, and Baby Boy Garrels expected later this year.
He is also survived by one brother: Lynn (Rosemary) Todd of Pontiac, IL.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one son: Scott Todd, three brothers, and one sister.
Dick served his country in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. Following his military service, he built a fulfilling 32-year career as an ironworker, dedicating his skills and work ethic to his profession.
Richard was a man of many passions. He was an avid follower of late model dirt track racing. His enthusiasm for racing extended beyond the stands, as he actively participated in go-kart and motocross racing with his sons and grandsons. He also cherished the time spent engaging in sports with his sons and grandchildren.
In his retirement, he found joy and purpose working in his garage, where he was known for his skillful repairs on lawn mowers and small gas engines.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Accolade Healthcare of Pontiac for the exceptional care Richard received during his stay.
Richard will be remembered as a loving man with a generous spirit.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
