The “KING 56 F-100”….. a journey and adventure that took time, passion and ideas. The King family is a perpetuation of Preston King, dad and grandfather. Years of building and now fresh out of paint from Hot Rods and Hobbies, Inc. and now in final assembly. Today was a meeting of the minds, decisions aren’t easy, fabric, leather, colors, carpet….. comparing swatches to see what compliments and carries the vision. Harder than most people think. It takes all of us to bring it to life. Thanks to Alfredo Carcamo alsgaragecustominteriors to bring his expertise to the table. We’re on the hot road to completion and this Hilborn injected 426 / 472 Hemi powered truck to the street and show….. the crew. Does anyone know this man?…… I do and maybe you do too. Dig into your memories of the 1980’s. Service Center on Tustin Avenue just south of Selman Chevrolet. A real speed shop = candy store for motor head geeks like me. I rode my bike from Tustin with my brown wallet full of money saved from working after school at McCoy Sheet Metal where I swept the floors, I was building my 40 Willys gasser. I first talked to a guy named John, strawberry blond dude and I now think he was looking out for me as he said no when I wanted to buy some MT Sportsman 18.5 x 31 x 15” tires….. John said kid go buy a skateboard I’m not taking your money. This guy walked up and said kid what you doing? Showed him a picture in my pocket of my hot rod….. I said Sir I don’t want a skateboard, I want those new tires. He looked at me and said well s**t, that’s yours? Yes Sir, he wrote the order and made it happen. I got those tires and took them home and stashed them in my bedroom that I shared with my brothers, room smelled like tires, rad. Like I said you most likely know this guy….. Eric Romanoff. He ran that shop and then went to WEST COAST CORVETTES and joined forces with Ken Grody Ford in 1999 where he is the main cat Service Advisor. Best dude ever and been my friend for 40+ years. Good to see you Sir and thanks for all you’ve done for me. He’s still on the grind to make service right. Grody Ford in Buena Park….. need service, see Eric. Tim Prete and Travis White too. Yup, paid 317 bux for those tires. Ken Grody Ford

Yowza!….. 41 years ago today, I bought my first hot rod project. 1940 Willys truck from Steve Jarvis for 950 bux. I was 14. My love and passion for our car culture has only grown. It started right here. Inspired by my hero’s and supported by so many. It was a snowball that grew and grew. It became a life and lifestyle. Dig it…. just wanted to share.
