Even after years of working with Porsche engines, I learned something new from this one, and I think most Porsche owners will too.

They dig into bore scoring, used oil analysis, engine wear, and why looking at trends over multiple oil changes can tell you far more than a single sample. Lake also explains what elevated iron, aluminum, and silicon can reveal about what is happening inside an engine.

So why do you need to replace your water pump as part of preventative maintenance? The bearing's balls actually ride on the shaft, not a hardened bearing race. That's why they fail in your M96/M97 engine and you have to replace them every 4-6 years or at most 75k miles.
