Fun to see new points of failure as these vehicles continue to age. C/S engine coolant leak on their 2008 9-3 Aero XWD with 180k. Last month I inspected and pressure tested at 18 psi for three hours with no visible leaks from all the common b284 areas. Returned for a starter install this week and found the oil cooler leaking from the mounting plate and transfer matrix. Glad new coolers are still available but they are very proud ($$$) of the four oring seals to mount the cooler. Vehicle is from the northeast so significant corrosion and rust issues, even the starter mating face to end plate was nasty.

2016 BMW X5 5.0L v8 Twin Turbo “Hot V” 91k miles. BMW engineers managed to make valve cover gasket replacement a 22 hour job for both banks, luckily they did use aluminum not the notorious plastic valve covers that crack. Also replaced failing plastic with barbed brass fittings for turbo coolant return lines, turbo inlet tubes, PCV vent line matrix, new angle position sensor/clockspring, washer fluid tank (requiring complete removal of the front RH fender 🤦‍♂️) and evap leak detection pump.

Now extremely common on the 9440 (03-11 9-3) both 2.0T and 2.8T are engine coolant leaks at the plastic heater core coolant hose fl**ge. Unfortunately Saab/Hedin now only offers replacement hoses from ProParts (China). As a high quality alternative, European quality Norma hose fittings are used for replacement. Carefully cut off the factory permanent hose clamp and install using traditional stainless steel hose clamps.

1999-2009 9-5 owners, don’t forget about regularly changing your cabin air filters every ~30k miles. Not as accessible as a 9440 9-3 but it prevents the evaporator drains getting clogged and flooding your TWICE module.

2007 9-3 CV with 150k miles. Unfortunately this customer, at no fault of theirs, was hit on the driver side causing significant damage to the driver door and rear quarter panel. Thankfully no injures but the vehicle is a total loss. 😔

9440 2003/4-2011 Saab 9-3: Is your space saver spare looking old and tired? Simply remove the foam blocks glued to the floorboard which makes room for a full size spare rim and tire! Retains the factory tool kit mounting and plastic nut to secure everything.
