This was an interesting job. The call came in and the issue was described as 2008 Cadillac Escalade AWD "no start on inclines, possible fuel pump problem", scanning showed multiple systems being affected, fuel pump control module fault, oxygen sensor fault, brake light fault, oil pressure sensor fault, to name a few. The fuel pump control module and wiring were the main concern. During testing it was noted that the FPCM was showing a fault to ground under heavy braking, which then lead to the idea, something in the suspension or driveline was causing a short to ground. Got the vehicle off the ground and the damage was easy to spot, the wire loom disintegrated over the years as it's prone to do, leaving the wiring loose enough to come into contact with the front driveshaft. Repaired the wiring, secured it away from the driveline and no more check engine light or starting issues. The kicker is the codes all pointed to certain sensors or modules, without proper diagnostics, this could have been an expensive repair. Lesson of the day, have diagnostics done by a reliable mechanic, it could save you a lot of money and headaches.
