A band of heavy snow and whiteout conditions are developing over parts of north central to west central Iowa and moving eastward. Wind gusts are now over 50 mph within that band. Expect quickly deteriorating conditions as the snow band moves east this afternoon.

Note, the NWS Des Moines radar is not showing snow falling over far western and northwest Iowa very well due to a high radar beam height at those ranges, meaning there is more snow than what this image depicts.
