YJ wrangler
For the 1987 model year, AMC introduced the first Jeep Wrangler (YJ) to the market, which Chrysler continued to produce after the buy out in 1987. It replaced the AMC CJ-7, with very little change in terms of the body and frame. The most notable, and controversial change was the square headlamps. It featured 3 engines over the course of production, with two available from the factory at any given time. The base model was equipped with the AMC 2.5 liter straight four for the entire production run. The AMC 4.2 liter straight six was available as an optional upgrade, which was replaced by an updated, more powerful 4.0 liter straight six in 1991.

2.5 Liter Straight 4
The 2.5 liter straight 4 w/manual transmission was always paired with the AX-5. The TF 904 automatic transmission option was only made available from 94-95.
4.2 & 4.0 Liter Straight 6
Both straight 6 motors were matched with the TF 999 for the entire production run. The manual transmission from 1987-1990 was the BA-10/5, and from 1991 onwards the AX-
