Same reasons I wear the Gaerne SG12. Maybe overkill on my on pavement road trips… but I am more confident knowing I’m well protected.

At RideADV, after witnessing too many lower leg, ankle and toe injuries over the last 10 years, we made the decision that all of our 2, 3 and multi-day navigation rides require proper motocross/enduro-style boots.
Not adventure touring boots.
Not work boots.
Not “she’ll be right” boots.
Real MX/enduro boots.
As a crew, we personally wear and pay for our own Gaerne SG12 and SG22 boots (this isnt because we got something free plug) because we genuinely believe in them. For minimum requirements on RideADV events, we use the Alpinestars Tech 7, minimum baseline.
** If you do have a medical condition or special circumstance that makes certain boots difficult, please feel free to contact us directly and have a chat.**
This isn’t our video, but it’s one of the better short explanations we’ve seen showing the difference and why proper boots matter.
If you’re too impatient to watch the full 4 minutes, skip to 1:55. It demonstrates a lot very quickly.
Have a watch and tell us what you reckon. Have proper MX/enduro boots changed the way you ride or your confidence level off-road?
