Presenting the Toolroom Edition GT40, a tribute to P/1075, the chassis that took the 1969 24 Hours of Le Mans. Built to Toolroom specification, it reflects the setup of the race-winning original.

When director James Mangold made Ford v Ferrari, he set one rule: no CGI race cars or green-screen fakery for key cockpit scenes. Christian Bale would drive the real thing.

Superformance in California built an operational GT40-style hero car producing over 600 horsepower. Its steel chassis closely followed the 1966 Mk II design, with about three-quarters of its parts able to interchange with period cars.

Just behind Bale sat a 511-cubic-inch aluminum Roush V8 producing 604 naturally aspirated horsepower, breathing through the famous “bundle of snakes” exhaust.

So when cameras rolled, Bale faced real heat, vibration, acceleration and a proper five-speed manual gearbox rather than acting against a screen.

The car was later signed by Ken Miles’ son Peter and original Shelby crew chief Charlie Agapiou, giving an already remarkable movie machine a stronger connection to the real 1966 story.
