Well it was out running with the March I posted the other week. Thanks once again to Mike at Vintage Indy for the photos!! So fun to see these cars from my past out on track!

Spoke with the restorer of this car a few weeks ago, and he said ‘well, you know that ‘54 Kurtis you did for me a couple years ago won best in show, right?’

No. No I did not know that! But almost anything that happened in 2025 was lost to me. It was at the The 47th Cincinnati Concours d’Elegance, June 2025. How cool to see these photos. I’ll link the whole folder here shortly for those who want to see it getting done.

Here’s the article about the show:

https://www.eclassicautos.com/2025-cincinnati-concours-delegance/

“Bob and Diane McConnell won the Roy O’Sweeney Best of Show Esprit de Sport for their 1954 Kurtis 500-C Indy Roadster.”

Popped by the Artomobilia show this weekend, and saw a bunch of the Porsches I’ve worked on. But this one always stands proud. . A bee landed on me while filming. I’m impressed I kept it this cool 😂.

This car is just gorgeous. Sometimes the biggest challenges become the most rewarding when done. The lines are perfect. The colors slay. The design is great. The build is great. I always love seeing this one.

Special thanks to the great Keith Koldsbaek for all of these wonderful photos of (and work on) the 1969 Magnesium Eagle!

Another walk around, this of what I’d call the cowl or cockpit surround. This is the piece with all the rivets that had to be saved, but this is before it was then riveted to the tub by the builders/restorers. Again, the close up is to show the pearl in the white. Also, I left the white noise audio of the original video. I don’t feel like being cutesy with social media tonight. 😵‍💫 edit: Of note: those are original vintage AAR decals, sent here like they were mailing hundred dollar bills. I had one shot to get them on, get them right, and make sure the clearcoat over them didn’t run the inks. I was genuinely nervous as there were no redos here. Whew.

A walk around of the nose. I was
Using an intense sun-gun which created some lensflare effect. But trust me, it was like glass. Close ups to show the pearl in the stripes, but not in the roundels.

Turns out , I didn’t take many pictures after it was completed. I think Vintage Indy posted a bunch a few weeks ago so I’ll get permission to share those and add them soon. After that, all photos of it completed and unveiled I will rely on you guys for! Any photos you have of it , please share in comments or PM me, and please
Give credit to the photographer and have permission when applicable. I’ll gladly give photo credits for all permissible photos. Here are the few I took , and I have a video of the nose I’ll post soon as well. I love the pics of the parts going back in their crates!

Some in-process pics of the Magnesium Eagle. I started with a dark sealer, then applied the white in the areas where it would be needed. The circle areas where numbers would be (aka Meatballs or Roundels) are plain white. So those were laid down first. Then, the stripe areas received a few coats of white pearl before the layout began. Could have gone a few different orders or directions here but it’s really all semantics.

The stripe appears straight front to back with the naked eye, but they actually had very specific notes about its widths and it varies up to 1/2” wider or narrower as it goes from tip to tail.

They also had very strict rules about the radius of the two tone line where it turns to wrap the ‘mouth’ at the front of the nose. The width of the white ‘lipstick’ was also very specific, and was not to carry into the nose farther than seen. In other words, the inside of the ‘mouth’ was to stay blue with only a white outline, NOT white all the way into the mouth which is likely what I wouldn’t have defaulted to without the paperwork.

The yellow circles I cut from premask at the degrees of the radius requested and used them as guides for laying the stripes. What seems all very obvious and not notable in its finished form, was all very much intentional and completed Dan and Justin’s visions.
