Second Chances Garage Inc. Second Chances Garage is a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization.

Second Chances Garage empowers families with financial challenges to achieve economic and personal independence through car ownership and provide Low-Cost auto repair to keep their car on the road so they can provide for their family. We accept donations of used vehicles, refurbish them, have them MD state inspected and put them in the hands of low-income working families in Frederick County. Our

Reduced-Cost Car Repair program also helps to make car repair and maintenance affordable for people who qualify. We partner with over 50 local agencies who are helping individuals and families find their way out of tough circumstances.

Please join us in welcoming our newest apprentices, Kuvindu and Bakari, to the Second Chances Garage team!

Both students join us through the Career and Technology Center (CTC) and are beginning their hands-on training in our shop. Over the coming months, they’ll gain valuable automotive experience, develop technical skills, and learn from our talented team of technicians and mentors.

We are excited to be part of their journey and look forward to watching them grow both personally and professionally. Welcome to the team, Bakari and Kuvindu—we’re glad you’re here!

Every vehicle has a story, and every story reminds us why transportation matters.

Today, Tina received a vehicle through Second Chances Garage after being referred through the United Way of Frederick County, Maryland Pathways to Transportation program. Like many people in our community, reliable transportation had become a daily challenge. Getting to work often meant long walks and limited transportation options, making even routine responsibilities difficult.

Now, Tina has dependable transportation to get to work, attend appointments, and spend time with family. The vehicle provides greater flexibility, independence, and the ability to stay connected to the people and opportunities that are important to her.

We are grateful to United Way, Wells House, our donors, volunteers, and community partners who help make stories like Tina's possible. Together, we are giving second chances to vehicles and the people who need them.

Congratulations to Matthew, the newest graduate of the Second Chances Garage Apprenticeship Program! 🎉🔧

After completing 450 hours of hands-on training in our shop, Matthew has reached an important milestone in his automotive career journey. Through dedication, hard work, and a commitment to learning, he has developed valuable skills that will serve him well as he moves forward in the industry.

A special thank you goes to CJ Fay and SUNEX Tools for their incredible support of our apprenticeship program. Their sponsorship and generous investment in a professional-grade tool kit provide graduates like Matthew with the equipment they need to take the next step with confidence.

Thanks to SUNEX Tools, Matthew leaves our program equipped not only with knowledge and experience, but also with the resources needed to continue building his future.

In February 2022, Brian received a program vehicle through Second Chances Garage. It was a Ford Explorer that helped provide reliable transportation during an important season of his life. Over the past four years, that vehicle carried him more than 80,000 miles, helping him get to work, meet family obligations, and build greater stability.

Recently, Brian purchased a Buick LeSabre of his own and chose to donate the Ford Explorer back to Second Chances Garage so it can help someone else on their journey.

Stories like this remind us that transportation changes lives. When a recipient reaches a point where they can purchase their own vehicle and then gives back to help another family, the impact comes full circle.

“I can now start to save money.”

Today, Dawn received her Second Chances Garage program vehicle.

Through our partnership with Advocates for Homeless Families, Frederick, MD, Dawn has been working hard to build a stronger foundation for herself and her children. She recently started a new job and is focused on creating stability and opportunity for her family.

When asked what having a vehicle means to her, Dawn shared, “I can now start to save money.”

Reliable transportation will help her get to work, support her children’s activities, attend appointments, and spend time with her oldest son. It also opens the door to creating special family memories, including a long-awaited trip to the beach.

Congratulations, Dawn! We are excited to see where the road ahead takes you and your family. 💙

Referred through Advocates for Homeless Families, Frederick, MD, Dawn has shown incredible perseverance while working toward greater stability and independence for herself and her family.

Reliable transportation will help support her employment, education, healthcare needs, and continued progress toward a brighter future.

From fresh new graphics to fresh cool air!

Before and after…. The Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County van may have gotten its stylish new wrap from a wonderful vendor and friend of the Club, but today it was back in the shop for something just as important — keeping the kiddos cool in that back rows!

With temperatures climbing and the kids feeling “hot, hot, HOT!” 🥵 the guys jumped into action to replace the blower and get the AC moving again. Because comfortable rides matter too!

It takes a village …. from community partners helping the van look great to our team helping keep it road-ready for the children it serves every day.
