Big Bend Ranch State Park doesn't get nearly the attention of its national park neighbor, and the Solitario Loop Trail is proof of what people are missing. 🏜️

The Solitario itself is a geologic oddity, a massive eroded volcanic dome nearly ten miles across that looks almost otherworldly from above. On the ground, the trail winds through concentric rings of rust-colored rock and desert scrub, with almost nobody else around for miles. It's remote enough that you genuinely feel like you're somewhere few people bother to go, which in West Texas is saying something.

This isn't a casual afternoon hike. Bring more water than you think you need and start early, because the sun here doesn't negotiate. For hikers who want solitude over crowds, though, there's not much in Texas that compares. Has anyone here actually made it out to the Solitario, and was it as remote as it looks in photos?
