🔧 This Week’s Big Project? A Complete Engine Replacement on a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox! 🔧

You may be wondering, what could cause an engine to fail on a vehicle that’s still this new?

💧 Water damage!

With all of the heavy rain and flash flooding we’ve experienced over the last couple of days, it can be difficult to avoid deep areas of standing water. Unfortunately, driving through water that’s too deep can cause serious—and sometimes catastrophic—damage to your engine.

So, why can water cause an engine to fail?

One of the most common causes is hydrolock. Your engine’s cylinders are designed to compress air and fuel, but water cannot be compressed. If enough water gets into the cylinders, the pistons can be forced against a substance they simply cannot compress. This can result in severe internal engine damage, including damaged pistons, connecting rods, or other engine components.

Luckily, this customer brought her Equinox to our team, and we were able to help get her back on the road with a complete engine replacement! 🔧

While an engine replacement is certainly not ideal, unfortunately, water-related vehicle damage can happen—especially during heavy rain and flooding.

🌧️ If you see deep or standing water on the road, use caution and avoid it whenever possible. Even water that doesn't look particularly deep can be difficult to judge from behind the wheel.

We hope you never have to experience this, but if you do find yourself dealing with water-related engine damage, give the team at Midas - Fargo a call!
