Just to keep you up to date on the 1995 Range Rover Classic. You can see how far we are going rewiring every faulty "issue" that all Classic's have. This Rover has every component working as new including power windows, heated door handles, heated power seats that operate as new, all switches, wiring, plugs and connections have been cleaned or replaced, there are NO lights on the dashboard, the AC blows cold off a factory, brand new heater/ac module, the shifter illuminator is brand new and all lighting operates correctly. There is not one inch of this Rover that we have not replaced or restored. I will be sad to see it go, we have put more than 1000 hours into the restorarion.

Tips for Summer Car Care

Summer can be tough on cars, especially during high temperatures when heat can destroy batteries and stress the cooling system and tires. As a precaution, these vehicle components should be checked periodically during summer to help avoid breakdowns and car problems.

Excessive heat and overcharging shorten the life of a battery. Heat causes battery fluid to evaporate, which then damages the internal structure of the battery. A malfunctioning component in the charging system, usually the voltage regulator, allows too high a charging rate, which will eventually destroy a battery.

To get the most life out of a battery, Cottage Street Motors recommends having the electrical system checked to make sure it is charging at the correct rate. If your car's battery is the type that needs to be topped off, check it often, especially in hot weather and add distilled water if necessary. Keep the top of the battery clean. Dirt can become a conductor, which drains battery power. If corrosion accumulates on battery terminals, it becomes an insulator and inhibits the current flow.

The cooling system also works harder during hot temperatures to prevent overheating of the engine. To keep the cooling system working effectively, the coolant and distilled water mixture for a vehicle's radiator should be 50:50. As a reminder, never open a hot radiator cap when checking the coolant level in the reservoir.

As a rule of thumb, the coolant should be changed annually on most vehicles. This will keep the cooling system fresh and clean inside, which helps prevent corrosion and assures that the coolant has the proper boiling point and protection. A pressure test, thermostat test, a cooling fan test and a visual inspection for leaks and corrosion should also be done annually. Hoses and drive belts should be checked for cracks, bulges or frayed edges.

The radiator should be kept clean by periodically using a garden hose and a soft brush to carefully remove bugs, dirt and debris.

Tires also need special care in warmer weather as high temperatures put added stress on them. To maximize tire life and safety, check the tire condition and inflation pressure monthly, and have the tires rotated every 6,000 miles. Summer heat will cause the pressure within a tire to rise, therefore, it's important to check the pressure when tires are cold. The owner's manual includes the recommended air pressure for your vehicle's tires.

"It takes very little time and money to make sure your car runs properly during summer, and although breakdowns happen, they can definitely be minimized by taking a few extra preventive maintenance steps.

The council reminds motorists that the vehicle's exterior also can be damaged by sunlight, UV radiation, acid rain, salt, dirt and air pollution. To protect the paint and finish, vehicles should be washed weekly and waxed every six months.

Come to Cottage Street Motors to have us inspect your car to be ready for summer fun.

Just arrived today for minor restoration. 1992 with an immaculate interior with everything working! In a 1992 Range Rover this is rare. This RR will go under a full back end rebuild with all new door well arches. Remember our process is much better than the original Land Rover back end on these early Rovers. Most of these gems end up in the bone yard, crushed and it is a shame because it is really the only "TRUE" Range Rover. We are able to correct every common issue with typical aged Range Rovers and make them much better, stronger and will last another 25 years! The color, Mondial Red, was an optional color and I have never seen a surviving short wheel base until now. It will go under a complete repaint in the original OEM color. The engine, with only 115,000 miles looks like it just came off the show room floor. Whoever had this truck really loved it. This truck will start at a higher bid due to year and millage. Once ready the opening bid will be $20,000 and it will go to the highest bidder. If you are interested in this truck let us know, these go very fast.

Here’s Why The Land Rover Defender Costs $70,000 Or More

Here's why the Land Rover Defender 90 costs $70,000 to $200,000

The Land Rover Defender. A loud, uncomfortable British SUV built twenty years ago and cancelled in America because they couldn’t afford to fit it with airbags. It’s unreliable, it has few amenities, it’s slow… and a nice one is worth $70,000. And a really nice one is worth $100,000. How the hell is…

04/06/2016

We just started working on the Range Rover p38 and there is some incredible news, this truck is 100% rust free. The underbody is like showroom. The interior like no one has ever sat in the seats, the interior is like new. We are going to get deeper and get s video up soon. Here are some pictures of typical rust issues. We have not even washed this car yet.

Something is missing?

03/30/2016

This Land Rover has been brought back to life after 2 years of waiting. This truck is ready for awesome off road use with the massive lift and tires but also behaves great on Road. This will go to the highest bidder starting at $12,000.

03/30/2016

This incredible truck will be at the shop by weeks end! This is a 1992 Range Rover County SWB (short wheel base) It has a 3.9L V8 with unbelievably low milage at 114,000! The wagon is very, very rare in Mondial Red and very few were sold in this color. It will need a little TLC to be perfect but should be ready for sale within a month, of course, to the highest bidder.

03/28/2016

We have a big surprise coming up tomorrow so stay tuned, this is very cool.

03/28/2016

And the P38 has landed! This will be one of the most badass Range Rover's we have done. This 1997 Land Rover Range Rover VITESSE EDITION HSE 4.6L beast will be ready for sale very soon. There were actually only 150 of these made. The word Vitesse means speed in Italian and this Range Rover with it's HUGE 4.6 L V8 will give you power and speed! The interior is flawless, like new. I have never come upon a Range Rover of this vintage with an interior so clean. The other incredible part is the Range Rover is 20 years old and it only has 115,000 miles! In addition this vehicle was used in the movie Layer Cake. After some TLC this truck will be up for sale to the highest bidder.

Putting the suspension in R32 VW and it is amazing! Front done now finshing up back. I know the customer is going to be extremely happy. This customer brought this car to another garage and for $1,200 they absolutely destroyed this car. The short time we have this automobile we've corrected everything that was incorrectly done. This car is now back to factory specs and running perfectly.

The beauty is in the detail. There is not one part of this Range Rover Classic that we are not thoroughly going through. Today we're rebuilding the back end to finish this job. This beautiful truck will be on the road Monday. And believe me the customer is extremely happy!

I just came back from a routine I've been very happy to have been able to repeat for over 20 years. Picking up my car from Cottage Street Motors.

I'm 64 years old and I mention that only to say I've been around long enough to have had plenty of experiences with car mechanics and dealerships you couldn't trust. Needless to say Cottage Street is the antithesis of those types of places.

When I've got a strange noise, something not working or just need my oil changed I go to Cottage Street with complete confidence. I know that Lee (the owner) will tell me the honest truth about whats going on and will expertly fix the issue in a trustworthy and dependable fashion.

At Cottage Street they do things in an old-school manner. that is simply to say, they tell you the truth, complete the work and at the end of the job you can look them in the eye and feel good about saying "thanks for a job well done."

p.s. My wife feels the same way.
