Important notification! The Gee Creek bridge will be closed for 5 days for repair, so you won’t be able to go through from west of Haw Creek Campground to Highway 7 on Highway 123. The old Fort Douglas bridge will be closed for 14 weeks!

Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) has issued a news release announcing closure dates for Highway 123 Bridge Rehabilitations in Johnson County.

The Highway 123 bridge over Gee Creek is scheduled to close from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, July 20th through Friday, July 24th.

A signed detour will be in place. To reach the north side of the closure, traffic will take Highway 123 south to Highway 164, Highway 164 east to Highway 7, then Highway 7 north back to Highway 123. To reach the south side of the closure, traffic will take Highway 123 north to Highway 7, Highway 7 south to Highway 164, then Highway 164 west back to Highway 123.

Weather permitting, the closure will allow crews to perform bridge rehabilitation work. Highway 123 will remain open to local traffic only on either side of the closure.

Upcoming Closure on the Big Piney Creek Bridge:
Following completion of repairs to the Gee Creek Bridge, the Historic Big Piney Creek Bridge on Highway 123 will be closed for approximately 14 weeks for its own rehabilitation project. ARDOT will issue a separate news release announcing the specific closure dates once they are finalized.

Hot & dry pretty much sums it up. The Creek is low! It’s just above 1’. No rentals. We will be open from 9:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. today. We’re out of ice, but we have cold drinks, candy bars, & chips. We have some really nice life jackets for kiddos & water shoes for men & women! Praying for rain!

Big Piney is low, 1.2 on the Long Pool gauge. No boat rentals today, but we will be open from 9:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. if you are in the area & need a cold drink & a candy bar, some sunscreen or bug spray, or a pair of good water shoes for $15! We also have some swim tubes & a new supply of Arkansas stickers!

Big Piney bumped up for a minute late yesterday afternoon, went from.9 to 1.6. It’s back down to 1.4 this morning, hoping it flushed out the warmer water & brought in some cooler, cleaner water. These hot temperatures heat it up fast when it’s low. No rentals until it comes back up!

The rain has been welcome, but it didn’t do anything to the Creek, it’s .9 today. We’ve enjoyed rainbows the last couple of days, so there’s that. Not looking very hopeful for more water anytime soon!

Big Piney is 1’ this morning. No rentals. We wouldn’t do that to you! The forecast is showing some rain this time tomorrow morning. The longer we go without rain, the longer it’s going to take to bring it back up to floatable.

Big Piney has gotten too low to go, it’s just above 1’. No boat rentals until it comes back up. We’re closed today, Monday, July 13, 2026. Pray for rain! We are!

We were so hoping to wake up to the Creek being at least a little higher, but not yet. It’s 1.2 at Long Pool. They did get a little over an inch at Fallsville & almost an inch at Walnut, so there’s a chance it might bump up later. We’ll be watching it!
