Excited to be working closely with Öhlins USA and Inertia Lab to develop an optimized shock setup for the HyperMiata! The car is already showing great pace, but early testing has identified some areas where a bespoke solution tailored to this car should net even more performance. There's no rest in the quest for lower lap times. 😎

My Time Attack adventures seem to be involving more and more new tracks that I’ve never been to before. At a competition, sessions spent getting familiar with the track are wasted opportunities. With Thunderhill coming soon (I’ve never been there) I decided it’s time to get a sim rig so I can prep for a new track properly.
I’ve been assembling all the bits and pieces over the past few weeks, and then Greg and I got it all set up. Nothing super fancy but good quality Fanatec gear paired with a retired Cobra Suzuka I had laying around.
Naturally once it was up and running the whole Good-Win Racing crew had to take a crack at some laps. Might have to get a whiteboard on the wall for a lap time challenge!
And now it’s time for me to learn Thunderhill Raceway East course bypass. 😎

Sometimes over the course of a long build the rules you’re building the car for change while you’re still building. The only thing to do is adapt.
In our case GTA limited adjusted the rules about the rear wing position. I had already finished everything wing related by then so we got the car up and running with it as-is, but updates were needed before we compete at a GTA event. New uprights were cut recently at waterjet to shift the wing position by a couple of inches. Those raw pieces still needed finishing work so this weekend my project was to machine the tops, round the leading edge, clean them up, drill and mount the brackets that reside on them for nearby bodywork mounting, trim the sharkfin accordingly, and then get it all installed.

New side exhaust from thin wall 321 stainless.
Gained 2.7 lbs vs the titanium, and if it holds up for *gasp* more than one event then it’s a win.

Also pour one out for the silicone purge plug that literally caught fire inside the tube but still kept things sealed until I finished the weld 😂

Las Vegas Motor Speedway Outside Road Course CW 1:45.6

First time here. Fun track. Need more laps here to really find
my groove. This lap was in session 2 and just a half
second off the course record. Had a bit of a faff in the
second to last corner, according to data from other
laps that mistake cost 0.5-0.6s. Definitely going to
have to return soon!

First time at Las Vegas Motor Speedway! Perfect weather, toolbox sandwiches (this is how Bri gets me to eat between sessions 🤣), and more cracked titanium.
Half a second off the outright lap record here in the second session. Looking forward to returning to this track and taking that top spot.

At the last test session at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway I tested a new oil pan baffle. Data overlay here green line is oil pressure from a lap of the same track in January, and blue line is oil pressure with the baffle. Massive difference in the dips! Couldn’t be happier with these results and immediately ordered a second one. When I opened up the box and took baffle #2 out I found a cool message lasered on it. Thanks !

Easter turned out to be titanium themed.
The Ti skid pucks on my splitter were finally worn out so it was time to replace them. Good thing I made a ton of spares long ago.
Then I made new heat shields for the side skirts that are about twice the size of the old ones. 0.020” Ti sheet for that.
And in my ongoing titanium exhaust saga, both left and right Vibrant resonators failed at the last test (cracked where they flare out in diameter and the metal is a little thin and stressed). So I’ve decided mufflers are for people who want to be slow and I cut them out and replaced them with straight tube. They barely did anything anyways.
