Summer intern season starts next week, and we’re excited to welcome our incoming class! We asked 2025 intern and now full-time stamping press engineer Sebastian Rojas Garcia about his experience and what made him say yes to a career at Ford.
“As an intern last summer, I could see the camaraderie between coworkers,” he says. “It was clear to me that we all cared for each other beyond the scope of our roles, and that’s important to me. The stamping team made sure I had meaningful work and that I was learning, and that’s still true now.”
“Also, at the University of Michigan we were taught ‘People-First Engineering,’ which is about centering people while participating in the technical aspects of our work,” says Sebastian. “It’s great to be joining a company that uses that same framework.”
Sebastian also likes the idea of making a great product for customers like his dad. “My parents immigrated from Colombia and my dad worked hard to become a plant manager in the tire-retreading industry,” he says.
“When he got the plant manager position, he got a Ford F-150 company truck and that meant the world to him. Knowing our customers are hard-working people like my dad is what excites me and motivates me.”
One of the perks of being full time that he’s most excited about? The benefits. “I really appreciate the medical benefits. My partner is a therapist, and it’s great having her on my insurance.” He’s even looking into the optional pet insurance for their rescued pitbull, Maple.
Welcome back to the team, Sebastian – and welcome to the soon-to-be Class of 2026 interns!
