Almost 38 years ago, Pat Slockum walked into Ben Mynatt Chevrolet as a young technician just looking for direction. He had been stocking shelves at a local grocery store and knew he wanted something more, but had no idea it would turn into a lifelong career and a second home.

He started through General Motor’s Automotive Service Education Program (ASEP), learning the trade and coming back to apply it hands-on. Things have changed a great deal over the years. Back then, he was adjusting carburetors—now he’s working on electric vehicles.

He was always dedicated to getting better at his job. “I’d take service manuals home just to study. I wanted to get better, to do things right.”

That’s something Ben Mynatt always stood for—doing what’s right and taking care of people.

“I’ll never forget him walking through the service area, checking in, or the day he hopped in the passenger seat and told me to test drive one of the first Luminas.”
He built more than a dealership—he built a family.
