I had a job that I loved so much I looked forward to Mondays just so I could be there.

Years into it, things shifted.

I started to lose sleep over behaviors that were happening with leadership. These were things that were affecting my ability to MY job effectively.

Eventually HR heard about it and while they said all the right things in the moment, ultimately they decided to side with leadership and allowed illegal and immoral things to continue.

I knew I had to make a decision and clearly that was to leave because, well, I’m here.

I walked away from my dream job - I literally dreamed about retiring from there and 100% planned to. It took a lot of grieving to understand that in order for me to live authentically, this had to happen.

Since then, nearly a decade ago, I have become more firm in who I am, what I believe in, and what I stand for.

Hear me and believe me when I say that Truly Yours Weddings will NEVER recommend other vendors or venues who offer incentives for referrals. Not only does it make us look bad, but it isn’t fair to our couples who could be missing out on vendors and experiences that would be a much better fit.

Recently a new venue who has no experience in this industry essentially fooled me into believing we were working toward creating a real partnership - not a referral system. They then offered me a substantial kickback for every wedding I sent them that got booked.

We choose to act with integrity so we kindly turned down their offer and wished them well. I also learned a valuable lesson in sharing my brain. ;)

Every industry has rotten apples who see money as the ultimate goal. We have always and will always stand firm in providing our couples with professional, ethical, and authentic experiences first and foremost.

Okay, it’s our turn!

Not too long ago I gave you 3 things to stop doing while wedding planning…but now it’s time for us to step up to the plate!

1) Talking badly to your couples about other vendors. Yep. You are of course allowed to disagree with how another vendor runs their ship. As long as they’re not out here stealing people’s deposits and ghosting them (see: number 2), of course. There are plenty of other officiants, day-of coordinators, planners, decor renters, etc., who do things much differently than we do, from pricing to processes. But there’s only one me and one them. Every single vendor brings their own flavor! It’s okay to say “we do things a little differently here” but encourage the couple to find the best fit for them…you know, like they did their fiancé. 🤗

2) 👻Going incommunicado. Listen, your couples are spending a TON of money on one day. Letting them hang is just rude. Put yourself in their position - you have X amount of dollars to spend on one thing that means a ton to you. You hire someone to help you obtain this thing and then your questions go unanswered for weeks…yikes, right? In 2026 there’s no reason to not be answering your couples in a timely manner.

3) Not working cohesively with other vendors. We all have a job to do, and most of us want to do it really well. That means playing nicely together in the sandbox, helping each other when needed and staying out of each other’s way when necessary to give the couple an amazing wedding! Unless told otherwise, assume a vendor knows what they’re doing and they don’t need instructions from you on how to do their job, AND be willing to help if possible. We all have the same end goal, after all. One band, one sound. 🙌

Bonus One/Confession - not taking care of yourself. Eat breakfast, drink water, get quality sleep, and turn off those screens once in a while. We can’t give more than we pour into ourselves, so do the things that keep your tank full. Kapiche? 😘

I use my mom voice and coach all my couples on making sure they drink plenty of water on their wedding day, especially on these super hot days.

Think I’d take my own advice? 🤣

After today’s wedding (which was beautiful), and a big ol’ foot cramp, I’m rehydrating tonight.

After a lot of sweat and swear words (no blood or tears, surprisingly), our decor rental page is live. Our catalog has already had 4 revisions as it continues to grow. There are a few things in our inventory that haven’t made it to the catalog yet as well, but if we keep waiting for perfection this will never get done!😂
