Only the good die young.
It's an expression that has endured for centuries, spoken whenever a genuinely kind and caring person is taken from us far too soon.
Sadly, those words seem especially fitting today as we mourn the sudden loss of our friend Keith Rood, who passed away at just 42 years old, leaving behind his beloved wife, Carmen, and their two young children, Clinton and Hayden.
For decades, racers throughout Arizona knew and admired Keith. He was one of the sport's unsung heroes — a corner worker who freely gave his time, energy, and expertise to help keep drivers safe wherever he was needed. It was a labor of love, performed at his own expense, because that's simply who Keith was.
Keith served as Chief of Flagging and Communications for SCCA Arizona and also worked events for NASA Arizona and numerous other racing organizations. His passion for motorsports took him to IndyCar, Formula 1, and, this year, the Rolex 24 At Daytona. He was also a lifelong NASCAR fan who loved every aspect of the sport.
Away from the racetrack, Keith was a Construction Project Manager at Delta Electric & Air and somehow still found time to coach youth soccer. No matter how busy life became, he always made time for racing and for the people who made up its community. Yet of all his roles, none meant more to him than being a devoted husband and a proud, loving father.
Keith gave far more to motorsports than he ever expected in return. His dedication, professionalism, generosity, and quiet willingness to serve made him a friend to countless racers, officials, and volunteers.
All of us at the Podium Club will miss him deeply. Keith, his late mother, his sister, and many members of his family have been a cherished part of our racing events since the day we opened. To Carmen, Clinton, Hayden, and the entire Rood family, we extend our heartfelt condolences during this incredibly difficult time.
