When something in your van stops working, the first question is often: “How much will it cost to fix?”

We get it. You want to know what you're looking at before committing to a repair.

But here's why we start with a diagnostic instead of giving quotes over the phone: the same symptom can have several different causes, and each may require a different fix.

A heater that won't fire up might have an issue with one component, its installation, or another part of the system. Without inspecting and testing it, we'd be guessing.

During a diagnostic session, we'll listen to what's happening, investigate the problem, explain what we find, and talk through the next steps and associated costs. If we need to do more troubleshooting before confirming the repair, we'll explain that, too.

We care about getting the repair right, not just getting it done quickly. That starts with understanding your van, how it's set up, and how you want to use it.

Your inverter can be working perfectly and still have a wiring problem.
We found that on this 3,600-watt inverter. The inverter itself wasn't the concern—the existing cables were.

The system had dual 6 AWG wire supplying the inverter, which is smaller than what we'd typically run even on a 3,000-watt inverter. So rather than leave it as-is, we're going to remake the cables with appropriately sized cable.

Why does that matter?

Because inverter wiring needs to be sized for the actual system. The inverter's power, expected current, cable length, system voltage, and other factors all come into play.

Undersized wiring can create excessive voltage drop and heat, and it's not something we'd want to gamble on in a high-powered van electrical system.

The goal isn't just to make the inverter turn on. It's to build an electrical system that can safely handle the load you're asking it to carry.

If you're not sure whether your electrical system is sized correctly, book a diagnostic session and we'll take a look at the whole system, not just the one component you're concerned about.

AGM batteries have their place—but for most of the van electrical systems we work on, heated lithium is our preference.

Here's why:
🔋 More usable capacity: With AGM, you generally want to stay above about 50% state of charge. Lithium allows you to use much more of its rated capacity.
❄️ Better suited for cold-weather travel: Lithium batteries shouldn't be charged when they're too cold. That's why we like heated lithium batteries for van owners who adventure year-round.
⚡ Better fit for modern electrical systems: Today's vans often have more electrical demands than older systems were designed to handle.

And when we upgrade a van to lithium, we're not just swapping the battery.
We also look at how you're going to charge it.

Our preference is to have multiple charging sources—typically solar, DC-to-DC charging, and shore power—so you're not dependent on one method to keep your system topped up.

We typically install EPOCH batteries, which have been a reliable option in the systems we've built and used ourselves.
The right battery isn't necessarily the biggest or most expensive one.

It's the one that makes sense for your van and the way you actually use it.

Thinking about upgrading from AGM to lithium? A diagnostic session is a great place to start.

Yes—we work on RV electrical systems, too. ⚡

Vans are a big part of what we do, but our electrical work isn't limited to van conversions.

We work on:
🚐 Class B motorhomes — the ones that look a lot like a van
🚙 Travel trailers + fifth wheels
…and other RV setups where the electrical system needs some attention.

One thing we see pretty often? Older AGM battery banks and electrical systems that aren't keeping up with how people actually use their RVs.

Maybe you're running more appliances than the original system was designed for. Maybe your batteries aren't holding a charge like they used to. Maybe you're ready to upgrade to lithium, add solar, improve charging, or figure out why something isn't working correctly.

That's where we can help.

Our focus is primarily electrical diagnostics, upgrades, and repairs and we approach RV systems the same way we approach van systems: by looking at the whole picture instead of simply selling you another component.

If your RV's electrical system isn't doing what you need it to do, bring it in and let's figure out why.

A bad battery is easy to identify using our load tester tool.

But when we're working on an electrical system, we don't just swap the battery and send you on your way.

In this van, we're replacing a failed battery with a single Epoch 460Ah lithium battery, but we're also taking the opportunity to look at the rest of the system.

Wire gauge.
Connections.
Organization.
Labels.

Anything that looks questionable.
Because if something looks wrong, there's a good chance it needs attention.

And there's another part of electrical work that's just as important: building a system that someone else can understand later.

Things should be labeled, organized, and accessible—not buried in a rat's nest of wires.

Maybe you'll never need to troubleshoot your electrical system yourself. But if you do find yourself somewhere remote with a problem, or another technician needs to work on it down the road, a clean and clearly labeled system can make a huge difference.

Good electrical work isn't just about making everything function today. It's about making sure it can be safely understood and maintained tomorrow.

A little look at what’s been keeping us busy in the shop lately. 🚐

This past month has been a mix of electrical upgrades, repairs, and practical add-ons that make our clients’ vans work better for the way they actually travel.

⚡ Electrical system upgrades + troubleshooting
A lot of our recent projects have involved diagnosing systems that weren't performing the way they should and making the right upgrades or repairs.

🔋 Battery replacements
We’re seeing more and more owners learn the hard way that an off-brand battery isn't always the bargain it seems. And just like the rest of your van’s systems, batteries need to be properly installed, used, maintained, and stored to perform well over time.

🛞 Exterior upgrades
Rear tire carriers and exterior storage are popular for a reason: they add useful space while making sure you actually have a spare when you need one.

📡 Adding to past builds
One of our past custom-build clients came back to add a few new conveniences—a Starlink setup and an additional fridge that can be removed when it isn't needed.

Your van doesn't have to stay exactly the way it was when it was built.

As your adventures change, your van can change with you.

Rear tire carriers and exterior storage are popular for a reason: they add useful space while making sure you actually have a spare when you need one. We love installing the rear tire/ladder combo to create accessibility to your roof for things like cleaning your solar panels while also giving better access to the rear tire. If you are driving a Ford Transit, once the rear tire is removed from under the chassis, this opens up space for water tank storage as well.

When does saving weight in a van build become too much of a good thing?

We're working on replacing these drawers because the original drawer boxes were built from ¼-inch plywood.

Yes, it's lighter.

But it's also not holding up to the everyday demands of van life.

This is one of those areas where we think it's worth choosing durability over saving a few pounds. If you need to reduce weight in your build, there are usually better places to do it.

For perspective, a sheet of ¾-inch plywood is roughly 65 lbs, while ½-inch is around 40 lbs. On a full build, that difference can add up, but so can constantly repairing or replacing components that weren't built to handle the job. As you can see in this example, the drawers are warped and not functioning.

Your van is a moving home. Build it for real life.

The goal isn't the lightest possible van. It's a van that's light enough to drive efficiently and durable enough to actually enjoy for years.
