Nine times out of ten, the shaking you feel at a stop is warped brake rotors. They get hot, they cool unevenly, and over time they develop high spots that pulse through the pedal and shake the steering wheel every time you come to a halt. It is not dangerous today but it gets worse, not better.

Rotors do not need to be replaced every time.

That is the part a lot of people get talked into. If a rotor still has enough thickness left, it can be resurfaced on a lathe for a fraction of the work and it will feel brand new. Plenty of shops skip that conversation entirely because selling a pair of rotors is a bigger ticket than cutting the old ones. A good shop measures first and gives you the honest answer.

Now sometimes the shaking is not brakes at all, it is a motor mount that is torn or collapsed and you only notice it at idle because the engine is not spinning fast enough to smooth itself out. Easy way to tell the difference: if it shakes with your foot off the brake too, look at mounts before you look at rotors.

Either way it is a small job if you catch it now. Bring it by and we will tell you which one it is before anything gets replaced.
