Storm season doesn't wait. Neither should your prep.
Your steel building is tougher than most β but "tough" and "storm-ready" aren't the same thing. Here's how to make sure it's both:
1. Check your anchoring. High winds don't push on your building, they pull. Loose anchor bolts are the #1 point of failure in a storm β inspect them before the sky turns green.
2. Clear the perimeter. Trim overhanging branches and stow anything that can become a 40-mph projectile. Your building can take a hit. Your neighbor's windshield can't.
3. Inspect your seals and flashing. Small gaps around doors, windows, and roof panels turn into big water problems fast. A five-minute check now beats a soaked interior later.
4. Know your drainage. Gutters and downspouts should be clear and pointed away from your foundation. Standing water is patient β it'll find a way in if you let it.
5. Document before, not after. Walk the exterior and snap photos of your building's current condition. If you ever need to file a claim, "before" pictures are worth more than any adjuster's word.
Built right, maintained right β that's a building that shrugs off what the forecast throws at it. πͺ
