On a side note: Call the shop phone and blow it up as much as you want. 😂 I don’t carry the shop phone with me, so call it, leave a voicemail, send a text—whatever you need to do.

You can also message The Shop page. I don’t sit on Facebook 24/7 either, so I may not respond immediately, but I will get back to you as soon as I’m back at the shop the following business day.

I don’t mind you trying to get ahold of the shop. That’s what the shop phone and page are there for. 👍

I never dreamed I would have to make this post, and it honestly breaks my heart that I even have to.

For the customers and friends who have my personal number and Facebook: I understand that it’s frustrating and inconvenient when something breaks down, especially on a holiday weekend. But just like you would like to enjoy your holiday, I would like to enjoy mine without being contacted about work.

You have my personal information and a way to reach me outside of work hours for a reason — because I consider you a friend and trust you with that information. Please respect that friendship and the boundary that comes with it.

This post is not directed at any one specific person. With 20+ phone calls, Personal Facebook messages, and text messages coming through during my holiday weekend, I feel like it needs to be said.

Yes, I can diagnose things over the phone. But I DON’T want to. That is not what my personal time is for. It takes time away from my family, my holiday, and the things I value outside of work.

If there is ever an issue with a repair that we have performed, I will make it right — and I always have. We stand behind our work and take care of our customers.

But please remember this the next time you’re rushing your mechanic to get something done because of a lack of preparation on your end:

Your emergency does not automatically become my emergency.

We will get to it. We will take care of you. But when the shop is closed, please allow me to have a life outside of being your mechanic.

Thank you to everyone who understands and respects that. It truly means more than you know.

I did everything I could today at the shop, but I’m feeling pretty rough, so I’m going to leave a little early today and get some rest.

I’ll keep everyone updated this evening or in the morning and let you know whether I’ll be able to make it in tomorrow.

If I’m not there, Brittanie will be just a phone call away, but she will not physically be at the shop. So please don’t hesitate to call the shop phone if you need anything.

📢 A Friendly Shop Reminder

I know posts like this don’t always reach the people who need to see them, but it’s worth a try!

If you have a vehicle or boat at our shop and your repairs have been completed—or you’ve decided not to move forward with the recommended repairs—please make arrangements to pick it up as soon as possible.

One of the most common things we hear is, “You looked too busy, so we went somewhere else.” The reality is that most of the vehicles and boats you see sitting in our lot are already finished. We’re simply waiting for their owners to pick them up.

When completed vehicles remain here, they take up valuable shop space that could be used to help the next customer. Picking up your vehicle promptly helps us keep repairs moving and provide faster service to everyone.

Effective immediately, we will be strictly enforcing our storage policy:
• Vehicles and boats must be picked up within 3 days of repair completion, or within 3 days of declining further repairs.
• After that, a storage fee of $35 per day will be charged until the vehicle or boat is picked up.

We truly appreciate every one of our customers and your understanding as we work to keep our shop running efficiently. Thank you for your continued support of our small family business!

📞 A Quick Update from Family Automotive & Marine Repair

To better serve our customers, Brittanie will now be handling all incoming phone calls while I stay in the shop doing what I do best—repairing, diagnosing, and turning wrenches.

Over the years, I’ve tried to answer every call personally, but I’ve realized that spending large portions of my day diagnosing vehicles over the phone keeps me away from the work that actually pays the bills and gets our customers’ vehicles, boats, and equipment repaired.

While I’m always happy to answer general questions, I can no longer provide free over-the-phone diagnostics. Every vehicle, boat, and piece of equipment is different, and giving an accurate diagnosis requires proper testing and inspection. Guessing over the phone isn’t fair to you, and it isn’t how we operate.

If you’re having an issue with your vehicle, boat, or equipment, we’ll be happy to schedule a time to inspect it and diagnose it correctly.

Thank you for understanding and for supporting our small, family-owned business. This change allows me to spend more time turning wrenches, complete repairs more efficiently, and continue providing the honest, quality service you expect from us.
