One of the simplest and most satisfying builds we’ve done to date.

We started with an extremely clean, stock-motor truck that we installed a Whipple on back in 2014. Fast forward to recently, and the 150,000-mile motor began making some mysterious bottom-end noises, even though it still ran great. We’d had a fairly basic build planned for a while, and it was finally time to put that plan into motion. Blaine King wanted a throwback to the early days when these trucks were more prevalent, and we were all for it.

Now complete, this truck will see some friendly track time with us there for trackside support. Full weight, no ice-down sessions—just a basic cooldown, a little prep, and have some fun. We’re thrilled to relive the old days, not just reminisce!

Vehicle details: Fresh built bottom end with Manley rod/piston combo, ported PI heads, some old JDM cams, an early generation 2.3 Whipple on 20 # up top, JDM/kooks headers, single big magnaflow, E85 fuel system, built trans, plus tuning, all done here..in house. Would it have made more with some TFS heads, electric fan, an updated whipple, and a cam change…sure!

If you want one of the cleanest inside and out Lightnings out there, this is it with just under 800 hp/800 tq to the wheels! We had the pleasure of tuning this truck back in ‘24, so I can vouch for the cleanliness and workmanship that went in to Brandon’s truck.

During a previous tuning session, this Lightning showed signs of converter slippage. The owner took the truck home, pulled the transmission, and followed our recommendation to inspect the stator-shaft seal and converter.

The stator-shaft seal was found rolled up and lodged inside the converter, hence the slip issue. Since the converter was already questionable, we supplied a known-good used Circle D converter to go back in the truck.

Afterward, the converter worked great—but the truck had no overdrive and crazy IAT2 readings. Further diagnosis revealed a faulty solenoid pack and bad IAT2 pigtail. Once repaired, overdrive and accurate IAT2 readings returned.

Then, it developed a severe lean-out up top. We added more E85 despite registering plenty on gauge, and the issue disappeared—but the fuel gauge never moved. Turns out, it doesn’t work.

The customer will address the gauge, but the important part is that this PI-headed 2.6L KB truck is now shifting correctly and making safe, repeatable power.

A health check on this Cobra revealed some unexpectedly crazy AFR numbers, but we got everything corrected and dialed in. It’s ready to rip another day! 🐍💪

Another tuned Harley out the door. This one came in with a fresh built motor, ported PI heads and a KB 2.8L on 93 octane headed to Dallas area. 609 whp/630 tq.
