Zips Baja Off-Road Racing

Zips Baja Off-Road Racing The Zips Baja SAE is a student design off road race team. We design, fabricate, and test mini baja cars to compete against other Universities.

Student lead team supported by SAE, challenged to design and fabricate an off-roading vehicle powered by a 10hp Briggs and Stratton engine. In order to compete, the car must comply with several safety regulations and size requirements. Competition entails static events such as cost report and face-to-face design evaluation judged by professional mechanical engineers , along with dynamic events suc

h as acceleration, maneuverability, suspension, and a 4 hour endurance race where teams complete as many laps as possible.

Manufacturing season is officially in the books!

We could not have done it alone We want to say thank you to WARDJet for cutting our aluminum components, SlewPro for helping us with gears and splined shafts, and Bill for all the inserts and CNC work that brought our parts to life. We could not have done any of this without your contributions!

And of course, shoutout to every single team member who put in the hours in the shop, this car is a result of all your hard work. May this car be faster and better than ever!

Now that manufacturing is wrapped up… it’s time to make it look pretty!

As we close out our subsystem spotlight series, we’re highlighting the team that helps tell our Baja SAE story. Our Outreach team builds the relationships that keep our program moving — connecting with sponsors, engaging the community, and creating opportunities that allow us to design, build, and compete.

We’re incredibly grateful for all of our managers and designers whose hard work makes this team what it is. It takes every subsystem, every late night, and every role to get a car to competition. Thank you to everyone who makes Baja possible 🤍🏁

Here’s to late nights in the shop that turned into lifelong friendships, to the people who started as teammates and became family. To the memories that only exist because of this team, and to the ones we’ll carry with us long after the season ends.

Here’s to the friends we made along the way — irreplaceable in every sense — and the moments that reminded us why we keep showing up, even when it’s hard. To the sponsors who believed in us and supported this team, helping make everything we do possible. We wouldn’t be here without you.

This team has shaped us more than we ever expected. It’s challenged us, pushed us, and given us a place where we truly belong. From the goofiest moments to the most rewarding wins, it’s never just been about the car — it’s been about the people behind it.

All those sweet memories like flipping the car, failing egress, singing music all the way to Arizona and Maryland, playing in the White Sands, and our seniors we will greatly miss. This truly has been a dream that will live in our hearts and could never be put into words just how special these moments are. To be young and having fun with such a spectacular group of people.

Zips Baja isn’t just a team — it’s family. And 2025 will always be a season we are grateful for.
