Why should you consider an electric vehicle (EV)? What are the biggest misconceptions about owning an EV? Olivia Oo, Vice President of Sustainable Energy Solutions at SP Group shares her perspectives as an EV driver herself and elaborates on SP’s ambitions to accelerate the growth of sustainable transportation in Singapore through our fast-charging network.

“Like most drivers contemplating the switch to an EV, range anxiety was very real to me at the start. However, with the current SP network spanning more than 450 charging points across Singapore, I’ve been able to integrate charging as a part of my daily life… (with charging that takes just 30 minutes) I’ve had many instances where my car was done charging before I was even done with my errand…” shares Olivia.

Catch up on Olivia’s interview with Top Gear Singapore: https://spgrp.sg/TopGear

We talk to Ms. Olivia Oo (Vice President, Sustainable Energy Solutions, SP Group) about the EV state of mind in Singapore

Singapore has plans to phase out petrol vehicles and their internal combustion engines by 2040. The nation's only female race car driver and mother of two, Claire Jedrek, goes on a journey to find out what this means for not only car owners but the public transport and commercial sectors.

What are some of the common concerns over EVs and how will they be addressed? What are the benefits beyond environmental ones? And more personally for Claire, will her kids enjoy the EV ride and will she still get as much thrill and joy out of driving a EV as she did with petrol cars? Expect a fun ride as she lifts the bonnet, kicks the tyres and gets behind the wheel of various EVs.

Maybank analyst Mr Liaw called the city-state "the most forward-looking and the fastest to embrace e-mobility" in ASEAN.

Did you know that Singapore has the highest existing EV infrastructure and targets in ASEAN? Scoring at 1,900 existing charging points since Feb 2021 and targeted 60,000 chargers by 2030 to phase out internal combustion engine cars by 2040. Credits to Maybank, International Energy Agency, local media reports.

As at Aug. 31, there were just 1,855 out of the 641,977 passenger cars in Singapore that were fully electric - according to the LTA data. Still, the city-state said it intends to entirely phase out vehicles with internal combustion engines by 2040.

With more industries and companies joining hand in hand to research, develop and manufacturing new electric vehicles (e.g. NTU and Hyundai motors signing research agreement of electric vehicle manufacturing), Strides Taxi will also be moving together and stay on track with the EV hype trend and continue its progression to achieve the first 300 EV taxis on road.

With the continuation route towards LTA’s Green Plan 2040, we look forward to additional electric vehicle charges at some 200 public carparks around the island in the coming year, and more companies like Strides Taxi are well prepared and ready to move towards full fleet of EV vehicles.
