Michael Esdaile

NEW Zealander Michael Esdaile has been interested in China and Asia generally since his early years as a farmer’s son in the southern New Zealand province of Southland. After a period as a sub-editor at the Otago Daily Times, and later acting Business News Editor, the travel bug took him to Australia then the USA before the offer of a position with a Sydney-based publishing compan

y saw him return Down Under. A telephone call from Chinese-born Australian Michael Wu and subsequent meeting with him fired Esdaile’s desire to see China. At the time Esdaile was Editor-in-Chief of the fortnightly motorcycle publication REVS Motorcycle News and Mr. Wu had made the telephone call to ask what he thought of the idea of a motorcycle tour tour through China. Almost from boyhood, the Orient had held a fascination for Esdaile and here was an opportunity too good to let go. More Info: http://www.takeme2.net/about-us/

50,000 in 194 SECONDS

Time taken to sell-out MAIN stand at Buriram.

Last week, we had a half dozen enquiries for the first MotoGP of 2026 at Buriram, Thailand.

This was despite our strong recommendation (in August) for anyone interested in going to get in touch with us immediately.

The smart folk did - and got a place ‘at the table.'

Last week’s enquiries have missed out.

On Wednesday (November 11) the tickets to the grandstands at the Chang International Circuit went on sale.

In just 3 minutes and 14 seconds, the entire 50,000 seat Main Grandstand had SOLD OUT!

As we explained in August, all accommodation close to the circuit was already booked out.

So, if you are interested in the 2027 MotoGP in Thailand, get back to us and we’ll make sure you are on the early-bird list.

There is an alternative: the Malaysian MotoGP round in 2026 is on October 30 – November 1, 2026.

That is not quite a year away – but it gives time to plan.

THE MOST COMPLETE RACER, EVER...

Jorge Lorenzo, who once shared the Honda garage with Marc Márquez, has no doubt about who stands at the top of MotoGP’s talent pyramid.

🗣️ “For me, Marc Márquez is the best rider in history in terms of talent and speed. Valentino wins for charisma, but Marc is more complete.”

Lorenzo believes that Márquez’s current form has left even his Ducati teammate Pecco Bagnaia stunned.

🗣️ “Bagnaia didn’t expect that difference. He thought Marc would be close, not always superior. That’s discouraged him and made him lose confidence. It’s pure psychology.”

The three-time MotoGP champion also compared Márquez’s dominance to past rivalries, saying that true psychological warfare happens not through words, but through lap times.

🗣️ “When you take off your helmet and see your teammate half a second faster, that’s what breaks you. Confidence decides everything on the track.”

Lorenzo concluded that while Rossi will always reign as the sport’s most charismatic icon, Márquez defines the ultimate racer.

🗣️ “If we talk about speed and courage to always go beyond the limit, there’s been no one like Márquez. He’s the most complete rider ever.”

Toprak Razgatlioglu has tested Yamaha's MotoGP bike at Aragon. He managed to lap the Spanish circuit around eight tenths of a second faster than he managed on the BMW Superbike.

The Turk's best WSBK race lap from earlier this year was 1m 47.935s...

Looks as if Yamaha still has some work to do.

Toprak Razgatlioglu completed his first test on Yamaha’s new V4 MotoGP bike at Aragon, clocking a best lap of 1:49.176, about 2.7 seconds slower than Fabio Quartararo’s 2025 Aragon GP qualifying time of 1:46.441. Toprak did 33 laps in cool conditions and will next test at Valencia before making his MotoGP debut in 2026 with Pramac Yamaha.
