E Hayes and Sons is a family business. It is a company built around the strong family principles which our pioneering forefathers brought to Southland in the late 1800's. With them came a rich spirit of innovation, inventiveness and hard work which has grown in reputation, just as Southland itself has grown. Since our earliest beginnings E Hayes and Sons have continued a proud family tradition of

putting the needs of our customers first. Our commitment to quality, service and expertise continues to underline that tradition providing leading Southland industries, trade customers and the general public with an extensive range of hardware, engineering and homeware products and services. From tools, hardware, engineering, automotive, paint, chainsaws, powertools, lawnmowers, pumps and fasteners through to home ware, kitchen ware, gifts and workwear it's a continually expanding range that must be seen to be believed. But step inside the doors of our Dee Street store and you will soon see we are so much more than just a hardware store and engineering shop. Proudly displayed throughout our store and FREE TO VIEW during normal shop hours, is an eclectic range of over 100 world-renown classic and vintage motorcycles, automobiles, engines, equipment and memorabilia which today makes up the E Hayes Motorworks Collection. The collection is a legacy of a family passion for ingenuity, innovation and determination to go beyond the expected boundaries of convention and performance. Nothing demonstrates this more clearly than the centerpiece of the collection - Burt Munro's Authentic, Original and Legendary record breaking "World's Fastest Indian"

We are proud of our reputation with many visitors to the city from around New Zealand and around the world making a point of calling in. We invite you to share that spirit with us and look forward to seeing you in store soon.

When it comes to the ‘key’ members of our team, Regan certainly fits the bill.

As Head of our busy Outdoor Power Equipment Department, he knows his way around everything from chainsaws and lawn mowers to generators, water-blasters and plenty more besides.

Whether he’s offering some cutting-edge advice to help you find the right gear for the job, or getting you sorted with our handy ‘While-You-Wait’ Key Cutting Service, Regan’s always ready to help.

Good advice and great service, always with a smile. That's definitely the key.

Cheers Regan!

As proud Bronze Sponsors of the Cancer Society New Zealand we’re very pleased to welcome their volunteer collectors into E Hayes tomorrow for the annual Daffodil Day Appeal.

They’ll be with us from 9am–2pm this Friday, 28 August, so if you’re passing through the store, please take a moment to say hello - and, if you can, add your support to this incredibly important cause.

With one in three New Zealanders affected by cancer at some point in their lives, the work of the Cancer Society touches so many of our families, friends and communities.

Every donation, large or small, helps ensure that no one has to face cancer alone.

So tomorrow, look out for the daffodils - and help us turn a little yellow into a whole lot of support.

On this day August 26 in 1967, a determined Southlander, a heavily modified 1920 Indian Scout, and a lifetime spent chasing speed came together on the vast Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

That day, Burt Munro rode his beloved ‘Munro Special’ into the record books, setting a new Class S-A 1000cc motorcycle speed record with an incredible average speed of 184.087 mph.

It’s a remarkable speed to reach on such a machine. But now, all these years later, it’s the story behind it that still captures the imagination.

Burt’s achievement came from a small Invercargill shed, through years of ingenuity, experimentation, hard work and an unwavering belief that he could make his Indian go faster. He did things his own way, solved problems with what he had, and never stopped pushing for a little more.

Today, we’re incredibly proud that Burt trusted his Authentic, Original and Legendary 'Munro Special' to us here at E Hayes in Invercargill - the motorcycle that carried one of Southland’s own into motorcycling history.

Today, his record still stands. And the legend of Burt Munro still roars.

Good on ya’, Burt.
