The Trailer Shop

The Trailer Shop We provide an extensive range of trailers for all towing and boating requirements.

The trailer for our pontoon build is done and this one was designed specifically for beach launching.

A few features worth pointing out:

🌊 The Teflon bunks and skids are set up so the boat self-centres onto the keel rollers every time, no matter where the bow hits the trailer. Really useful when you’re retrieving in surf.

🌊 The spare wheel drops down to act as a third wheel on the beach, so you can push the trailer in and out of the tidal zone without needing the jockey wheel.

🌊 And the coupling moves in multiple directions, not just side to side, so the trailer follows the tow vehicle naturally over rough terrain.

🌊 6000 pound electric winch, big wide tyres with good clearance, and low entry for easy loading.

The trailer is done. The boat is still in its fit out stage.

More to come on our Pathfinder Series, stay tuned!!!

The boats are out of the water, which means the trailers come in.

Custom builds, repairs, servicing, parts.

It's always a good mix of work and we enjoy every bit of it.

If you've got a trailer project in mind (big or small), come and have a chat.

We'd love to hear what you're working on.

Your coupling is the one thing connecting your trailer to your tow vehicle. It does that job every single trip, through vibration, salt air, and whatever the road throws at it.

Over time it wears and because it doesn’t fail dramatically, it’s easy to miss until something goes wrong.

Here’s what’s worth checking:

⚙️ The coupling head should latch cleanly and sit flush on the towball with no play or wobble. If you can move the coupling around on the ball once it’s locked, the jaws are worn and it needs replacing.

⚙️ Also check that the locking mechanism is engaging properly and that the safety latch is in good shape.

A coupling that’s past its best is a straightforward fix.

We stock quality couplings that you can shop online, but if you’re not sure what fits your trailer, come in and we’ll sort it out.

You know the one.

The light that flickers.

The coupling that doesn’t quite latch the way it used to.

The bearing that sounds a bit different on the highway.

The rust that’s been creeping in.

Easy to put off when you’re using the trailer regularly.

But with the boat out of the water and the trailer
not going anywhere, now’s actually a good window to sort it.

Bring it in and we’ll take a proper look. We’ll tell you what it needs and get it sorted.

We’re based in Glenfield, North Shore. Give us a call on 09 444 5571 or flick us an email at [email protected]

Pontoon update: she’s taking shape.

We’ve now got the initial bends done on the cuddy cabin and we’re about to cut the reliefs to bring the sides in to the right width.

The bit of timber sitting on top is a mock-up for the anchor hatch, just figuring out the shape before we commit.

Slow and steady on this one but every week it looks a little more like a boat.

Think we’ll have it out on the water before summer comes around again?

Stay tuned.

Paint and galvanising might look similar when a trailer's new but, they don't stay that way.

Paint is a surface coating.

Once it chips — and it will, especially around welds and joints — moisture gets in and rust starts.

On a NZ trailer that's been doing boat ramps and coastal roads, that can happen faster than you'd think.

Hot-dip galvanising is different.

The steel is fully submerged in molten zinc, which bonds to the metal and gets into every weld, every joint, and every corner. It doesn't just coat the surface, it becomes part of it.

For a trailer sitting outside over a NZ winter, the difference is significant. Salt air, rain, and condensation are hard on anything that isn't properly protected.

All our trailers are hot-dip galvanised as standard.

The winch is one of those things you use every time you launch and retrieve and barely think about until it gives you trouble at the ramp.

Salt water, UV, and regular use take a toll on the strap, the mechanism, and the hook.

A strap that's fraying or a handle that's stiff is worth sorting before the season kicks off.

What's worth checking: inspect the strap for fraying, cuts, or UV damage. If it's looking tired, replace it.

Give the mechanism a clean and a light lubrication.

Check the hook and safety latch are in good shape.

We stock winches and winch accessories at our shop. If yours is past its best, it's an easy fix before spring.
