A pair of V12s in the service department today. The Jaguar XJS uses a more traditional system with only two ignition coils, and a single distributor. While the Mercedes S600 employs 24 individual ignition coils, two per cylinder. The pairs of ignition coils alternate between firing the spark plug and measuring the ionic charge of the flame front every revolution.
