Most people think we only work on or restore English cars but we are equally at home working on American or Australian cars, custom cars or hot rods. We are currently working on this 1930 Chev hotrod. The owner wanted it converted to RHD and power steering. A lot of time has been spent getting steering angles and bump steer correct as the car will need recertification, it was far from correct in LHD form. The motor was shifted over to the right for LHD so we have had to move it across to the left for the conversion and even then space is tight. The body needed quite some work as the wooden frame was in poor condition so we were able to use some of our more traditional skills to sort thst

We recently re veneered the dash on this mid 80s TVR. TVR in its wisdom used mdf as the backing wood for the veneer. Unfortunately mdf is not very stable and the backing had warped and twisted. New backing timber was made using a quality ply for the dash and solid wood for the glove box lid. The centre console was veneered on to a steel backing. Once veneered the wood was coated with a sealer and then a number of clear coats to get the finish. The wood has to be air dried and can't be heated in the spray booth so this process takes some days. Each coat is sanded before the next coat

One advantage of working on little cars is they don't take up much space. Our Isetta body is just off for a quick sandblast before we epoxy it and start the painting process. The body sat in primer for many years and had surface rust. This has left a pitted surface with rust in the pits
which if not completely removed could cause problems once the body is painted. Normal sanding can't get into the bottoms of the pits

We recently traveled to Dunedin to pickup two rare MGA Twin Cam projects. These will be restored for the new owner, one roadster and one coupe. The Twin Cam was an attempt by MG to increase the performance of the MGA without resorting to a complete new engine. An alloy Twin cam head was mounted onto a modified B series block. Unfortunately the Twin Cam suffered reliability problems in production and the model was dropped after only 2111 cars were produced. The story of the MGB might have been quite different if this engine had been a success.
